About the Job:

The Field Technical Specialist - Skillbridge maintains positive working relationships with plant, area, and regional operations management and personnel. The primary responsibility is for the installation, migration, and performance of IT infrastructure technology in business offices, plant, and operational environments. This includes project management of installations, migrations, and problem resolution for complex technical issues. The specialist applies technical and system knowledge to install and support field IT technology, coordinating with technicians, enterprise telecom, system integration resources, and vendors.

This training plan is designed to meet the requirements of the DoD SkillBridge program and provide transitioning service members with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the civilian workforce

What You'll Do:

Key Responsibilities:



  • Problem Resolution (70%): Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues involving various IT infrastructure components.
  • Technology Installations/Project Management (15%): Manage and execute IT infrastructure installations and migrations.
  • Administration and Documentation (10%): Maintain accurate records of service requests, resolutions, site inventory, and cabling layouts.
  • Technical Training (5%): Provide technical knowledge transfer to end-users and support personnel.


Length of Training: 12 weeks

Training Timeline:
Weeks 1-3: Fundamentals of IT Infrastructure
Weeks 4-6: Networking and Wireless Technologies
Weeks 7-9: Field Support and Troubleshooting
Weeks 10-12: Project Management and Advanced Troubleshooting

  • Fundamentals of IT Infrastructure: Gain a comprehensive understanding of IT infrastructure components, including hardware, software, and networking fundamentals.
  • Networking and Wireless Technologies: Master the principles of LAN/WAN networking, wireless technologies, and network security.
  • Field Support and Troubleshooting: Develop practical skills in diagnosing and resolving common IT issues in a field environment.
  • Project Management and Advanced Troubleshooting: Acquire project management skills and advanced troubleshooting techniques for complex IT problems.


Specific Learning Objectives:

1. Fundamentals of IT Infrastructure



  • Identify and describe the function of various hardware components (PCs, printers, terminals, power supplies).
  • Understand basic software concepts and operating systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of network topologies and protocols.


2. Networking and Wireless Technologies



  • Configure and troubleshoot LAN/WAN networks.
  • Implement and secure wireless networks.
  • Understand network security principles and best practices.


3. Field Support and Troubleshooting



  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Utilize technical tools to collect and analyze system data.
  • Effectively communicate with end-users and provide technical support.


4. Project Management and Advanced Troubleshooting



  • Plan, estimate, and coordinate IT projects.
  • Apply advanced troubleshooting methodologies for complex technical problems.
  • Develop root cause analysis and problem prevention strategies.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

Experience. A senior IT specialist with a minimum of 10 years of experience in field support and IT infrastructure management will serve as the primary instructor and mentor.
