JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is seeking to hire an Engineering Support Specialist.

Responsibilities: Following are the key responsibilities of this role:

  • Design, modification, assembly, documentation, and testing of standard and non-standard electronic and mechanical instruments for highly specialized research equipment.
  • Selection and purchase of materials and components for department-wide use.
  • Interacting with vendors and inter-departmental contacts for assigned projects.
  • Coordination of installation, calibration, operation and/or maintenance of standard and non-standard instruments, experimental hardware, and systems in the laboratories.
  • Identification of system faults and repair needs for various types of research instruments.
  • Assist faculty and students in research projects, demonstrations, and practical knowledge of equipment and materials.

Education and Experience: This position will be filled at the Intermediate Professional level.It requires a minimum of an Associate's degree or higher and 2+ years of relevant experience.

Applicants must have a strong foundation, understanding, and experience in engineering disciplines of electronics and electro-mechanical systems. Computer aided design (CAD), Fusion 360, and 3D printing experience considered a plus. Experience with selection and identification of threads, plumbing fittings, and Swagelok/compression fittings is also a plus.

The individual must be able to engage with a diverse customer base including faculty, staff, and students. The candidate should be creative and self-motivated. This position will also be an integral part of the department safety program and interact with laboratory personnel (undergraduate, graduate, post doctorial, and faculty) and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) to identify and correct safety related issues.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$51,000.00 - $74,000.00
