What you'll be doing...

You are a member of the 24/7 operation/maintenance of the Bloomington IL Super Headend Office. Shift work and work over the weekend will be required. This position will primarily work the overnight shift. Shifts may change in the future and rotations may be implemented.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end maintenance and operation of the Video Network Operations systems within the Verizon Super Headend Office. This includes interpreting and correlating video service outages which relate to the degradation or failure of video transports and equipment systems. You will assess conditions to identify best practices for fault isolation and also perform trouble resolution. You will interact and work in conjunction with other Verizon Operations and Engineering groups as well as vendors to ensure timely resolution of network-impacting troubles.

Additional responsibilities include interpreting schematics associated with equipment interconnects and signal paths within the Super Headend Office.

  • Ensure stability and quality of video service.

  • Proactively monitor, manage and troubleshoot video service degradation, and resolve degradation of video service in a timely manner.

  • Interpret video and audio quality.

  • Assist and/or perform new design and ECR implementations.

  • Interface with third-party service vendors.

  • Perform health checks for the network.

  • Install and remove equipment, cables and fibers.

  • Climbing ladders, working aloft, perceiving differences in wire and cable colors, and moving/lifting items generally not exceeding 100 lbs.

What we're looking for...

You are an analytical, forward-thinking, and collaborative-minded network engineer. Your dedication and flexibility help to solve complex problems, and you're eager to help us evolve to meet the demands of running the network of tomorrow.

You'll need to have:

  • Associate's degree or two or more years of work experience

  • Three or more years or relevant work experience

  • Three or more years of experience in Network Operations.

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP.

  • Willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays as necessary.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science or Electronics.

  • Five or more years or more of experience in Video Operations.

  • Experience with Python scripting.

  • Experience driving automation initiatives and process improvements.

  • Knowledge of IP telecommunication equipment and technologies (Cisco, Juniper, Adtran, Calix).

  • Knowledge of routing protocols (MPLS, LDP, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF), cloud computing and virtualization.

  • Knowledge of specialized telecommunications equipment (Ciena 6500T/S, & Cisco) and technologies.

  • Knowledge of optical DWDM system and optical distribution network (GPON).

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while multitasking.

  • Experience working in a 24x7 Network Operations Center including working in a shift work environment.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $84,000.00 and $157,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
