Wenger Corporation is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Owatonna, MN! As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will contribute to Wenger Corporation's strategy to provide an exceptional customer experience by designing, developing, and improving manufacturing processes and systems. Manufacturing Engineers work to optimize production efficiency, control costs, and ensure quality and safety controls in the manufacturing process. At a minimum, you'll need:
- BS degree in an engineering discipline or industrial technology or equivalent experience
It'd be great if you also have:
- Three (3) years manufacturing experience
- Skill in reading engineering drawings and interpreting dimensioning and tolerancing including working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Skill in using measuring tools including tape measures, vernier and digital calipers, and vernier and digital micrometers
- Skill in the use of CAD and SolidWorks or 3D Modeling
- Skill in the use of computer hardware and software including the use of Microsoft Office Suite
As a Manufacturing Engineer, a typical day might include:
- Identifying, developing, and implementing value engineering projects with the goal of achieving cost reduction, waste elimination, and continuous improvement
- Analyzes costs and makes recommendations on when to outsource processes or add capabilities internally
- Creates proposals and financial support documentation for improvement opportunities
- Develops and introduces new methods, equipment and tools
- Audits product costs seeking reduction opportunities in materials and labor
- Seeks and accomplishes set-up time and lot size reductions
- Initiates and participates in mistake proofing team actions
- Assist with the implementation of continuous improvement, Kaizen events and A3 projects as directed
- Responsible for timely completion of defined projects in accordance with established functional, schedule, quality, and cost definitions
- Troubleshooting problems and expediting solutions
- Utilizes problem solving tools
- Acts as an engineering resource in problem solving interactions
- Utilizes statistical data analysis as appropriate
- Actively participating in New Product Development and product redesign projects
- Performs engineering work related to planning, devising, or adapting methods and processes
- Develops methods and processes for the manufacture of new products that are lean and integrate demand flow processing whenever prudent
- Encourages and establishes visual manufacturing and effective workplace organization in work area layout and process development, and utilizes visual controls and signals
- Provides labor and material estimates in both rough estimate and final form
- Specifies tooling and fixturing with consideration given to mistake-proofing, demand flow manufacturing intent, and effectivity
- Supports prototyping, provides tooling, equipment, and implementation cost estimates
- Is actively involved in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) teams
- Prepares process and systems documentation such as work instructions, standard work and value stream mapping
- Leads the generation of project schedules as related to manufacturing, tooling, industrial engineering, and manufacturing engineering concerns, and monitors performance to project schedules
- Interfaces with New Product Development team members, manufacturing leadership, manufacturing team members, and other functions as necessary to ensure smooth and timely manufacturing integration of new products
- Developing and maintaining technical expertise
- Assists in initial training with new equipment or production processes
- Aggressively trains self and others on advanced manufacturing processes, lean manufacturing and quality methods
- Documents technology in the form of training materials, process documentation, technology papers or reports, or preventative/predictive maintenance recommendations
