The BIW Welding and Sealing Product Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and production release of a Body-in-White system and/or components. The Product Engineer will create DFMEAs, DVPRs, performance standards, and conduct validation tests for these components. This engineer will be required to support plant launches by ensuring components and assemblies are designed and being applied as per design intent. Additional requirements include the checking of designs against best practice guidelines, corporate requirements, and regulatory requirements along with supporting dry car, corrosion, and vehicle weight initiatives. The BIW Welding and Sealing Product Engineer will be responsible for the release of welding, adhesive and sealing files for all milestones on new and carryover programs along with several components. These components include baffles, structural inserts, bake on mastics, plugs, tapes, purfoam and other structural and sealing components.

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or related degree field. Technical degree with relevant experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of design and development engineering experience in body in White, closures, or exterior systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in Unigraphics NX and Team Center.
  • 2+ years launch experience or experience in a production environment.
  • Knowledgeable in the Change Management Process.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Strong knowledge in materials coatings (galvanized, e-coat, multiple coatings for BIW Components).
  • Demonstrated capability in mitigating corrosion issues on body components.
  • Strong knowledge of lab procedures and product testing.
  • Body joint design experience of similar and dissimilar metals.
  • Bulk sealing and adhesive materials with application experience.
  • Creating welding and adhesive/sealing files in NX and Releasing them in Teamcenter.
  • Strong root cause analysis skills for field related issues specific for water and CFM testing along with air loss testing.
