SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer (CDEIO), the County is seeking a Deputy for DEI Training, development, and Multicultural Initiatives. The person assuming this position will be responsible for, in collaboration with the CDEIO, developing, implementing, and overseeing training and community development initiatives that support diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization. This role will focus on creating DEI educational programs and expanding internal and external community engagement in ways that promote a sense of transparency, trust and mutual respect around DEI issues and concerns for a more inclusive environment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Development
1. Along with the CDEIO, provide senior subject-matter expertise & consultation to constituencies. Advise and serve as a resource and liaison to various County DEI efforts, create a safe and inclusive space for all members of the community.
2. Proactively identify, explore, and evaluate highly complex, impactful and sensitive DEI issues that require thorough analysis of issues, creative problem solving, and presentation of various approaches to address issues, advocating for best possible approach.
3. Demonstrate independent judgment knowing when to influence with discretion and diplomacy to identify and respond to semi-complex issues in response to inquiries and prepare related materials.
4. Proactively collaborate with leadership on strategic planning initiatives; provide cohesive vision and direction to explore and identify current or future DEI related issues which may require intervention and involvement to identify and explore solutions; collaborate with the CDEIO and other organizational leaders to help guide and formulate decisions that take into account impact.
5. Collaborate with directors, managers and program staff to develop long-range goals, action plans and measurement /evaluation processes; regularly review program strategic plan and assess effectiveness of the program in achieving it and determine any adjustments needed.
6.Performs research and evaluates data and trends related to consultation, development of DEI training, and multicultural initiatives; regularly reviews and forms observations from data to make recommendations for refinement and influence actions, practice and drive improvements for goal alignment, provides reports of initiatives based on organizational needs.

Training and Multicultural Initiatives
1. Identify opportunities to enhance diversity and inclusion efforts and develop and implement DEI trainings and initiatives that align with the organization's goals and values. Implement activities that will assist in creating an environment of inclusion, respect and trust.
2. Collaborate with various departments to integrate DEI principles into existing programs and initiatives. Collaborate with HR and other departments to integrate DEI trainings and initiatives into various aspects of the organization; partnering with leadership to recommend and implement strategies for continuous improvement and progress towards established goals.
3. Develop and implement a comprehensive DEI training program. Conduct workshops, seminars, and presentations to raise awareness and promote understanding of issues related to DEI (e.g., bias, microaggressions, anti-racism, conflict resolution, etc.) Develop educational resources and materials to support DEI initiatives. Develop metrics and tools to measure the effectiveness of DEI training programs and initiatives.
4. Stay updated on best practices and trends in DEI to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of inclusive practices.
5. Establish partnerships with external organizations or experts to enhance DEI training and education programs. Serve as main point of contact for all DEI training and/or professional development initiatives.
6. Develop and oversee events working closely with constituency group(s) (staff, faculty, students) and College/Unit and University-wide Leadership to coordinate event participants and produce related materials.
7. Champion DEI initiatives by creating and maintaining employee-related diversity content and messaging.

Partnerships and Community Relationships
1. Cultivate, foster, and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external leaders; develop an understanding of the constituents' vision and mission, culture, goals, and strategic priorities to proactively ensure appropriate judgment in proposing and implementing DEI strategies.
2. Partner with and serve as resource for community entities and provide programmatic, consultative support services and resources for network groups.
3. Enhance the County's DEI presence in the community. Attend community events, meetings, and forums to stay informed about local DEI initiatives and build partnerships.
4. In collaboration with the CDEIO and External Relations, develop strategic goals and action plans for internal and external community engagement regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
5. Assist with DEI-related concerns within the community to help identify barriers or challenges encountered.
6. Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and summaries of DEI concerns to inform programming and training needs and assist with the identification and coordination of necessary services, resources, and support systems to enhance resolution of concerns/issues.
7. Provide administrative support in response to community concerns and incidents to ensure seamless delivery of services and communicate effectively to ensure a collaborative, equitable approach to resolution.
8. Continuously review, reassess, and update records of community concerns/issues based on progress and changing needs.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. A minimum master's degree required. Degrees in learning and development, human resources, diversity and inclusion, organizational development, community development, education/educational leadership, or related fields desired. Bachelor's degree with certifications in relevant fields will be considered.
2 .7+ years' experience leading internal and external organizational initiatives.
3. 5+ years' experience with the development, implementation, and evaluation of training programs and initiatives on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Prior experience in change management and conflict resolution with knowledge of intervention strategies are beneficial.
4. Expert knowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning theories, and the application of various learning modalities. Ability to utilize KPI's and metrics to track and measure learning and development effectiveness.
5. Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and advocacy skills with ability to build rapport and establish relationships.
6. Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts and best practices with compassion, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.
7. Analytical skills for measuring program effectiveness and making data-driven decisions.
8. Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups within the organization.
9. Ability to identify and implement innovative approaches to building awareness, respect, and appreciation for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
10. Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
11. Ability to speak a second language and/or knowledge of ASL, desirable, but not required.
12. Ability to travel to multiple locations throughout the County.
13. Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

* Light physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, and walking.
* Comfortable working conditions but with some exposure to stress from problem-solving and liaising across departments and communities.
