Job Summary

Assists the primary investigator(s) in developing and analyzing research project data to achieve the objectives of the various projects for the South Florida Terrestrial Ecosystem Lab (SOFTEL). Projects take a field-oriented, multi-disciplinary approach to study and monitor the long-term changes of South Florida's terrestrial ecosystems vegetative communities, from flooded herbaceous wetlands to forested uplands in greater Everglades, including Florida Keys, and in adjacent urban areas. This research contributes to a more detailed understanding of landscape dynamics and changes in South Florida for scholars and managing agencies

  • Assists in coordinating field sampling activities as needed, such as field crew scheduling, completing vessel reservations, permit management & renewal, and preparing maps, datasheets, and other paperwork, to ensure all project contracts are fulfilled.
  • Works independently or in a team to accomplish data analysis for multiple projects and works on reports and publications for all assigned projects.
  • Serves as potential emergency contact for field crew members and, if needed, coordinates rescue operations with the Field Operations Coordinator and Boating Safety Officer.
  • Trains temporary lab technicians, student employees and interns on lab and field procedures, and ensure lab crew (including graduate research assistants and postdocs), adhere to lab safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversees data entry by student technicians & interns to ensure QAQC
  • Oversees interns workflow as it relates to maintaining data entry, cleaning, analysis, and reporting processes are timely.
  • Assists the primary investigator in maintaining clean data records in project Geodatabases.
  • Essential personnel and may perform essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing.
  • Assists the PI with short- and long-term resource planning and record keeping by ensuring lab/field equipment are in working condition, maintaining analytical software in all lab computers, and assisting the PI with lab purchases and requisitions.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Desired Qualifications

  • Degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, or related field.
  • Knowledge in Data analysis using Excel, R Studio, Statistica, PCORD, PRIMER, ArcGIS Pro
  • Knowledge of Southern Everglades Plant Species & identification
