The Data Management Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing data architecture solutions, focusing on
ELT and
ETL approaches, data integration, and analytics. This role requires working across multiple teams to establish best practices and develop scalable data integration strategies for the University Data Warehouse.
The Architect collaborates with technology and strategy groups within GW, participates in Agile
SCRUM teams, and engages with stakeholders to drive innovative data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Data Architecture & ELT/ETL Implementation
- Conducts architectural design, business analytics, and data modeling to implement the University's data warehouse initiative with a strong emphasis on ELT and ETL methodologies.
- Partners with stakeholders to ensure the correct interpretation and use of data warehouse information.
- Works with business users, developers, and database administrators to map business requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical models while ensuring compliance with enterprise standards.
- Advise users on policies governing data protection and compliance.
Data Integration & ELT/ETL Processing
- Designs and implements ELT/ETL-based data integration solutions, leveraging cloud-native data processing tools and frameworks.
- Collaborates with user groups to analyze requirements and optimize data integration performance.
- Ensures that data movement follows enterprise-wide standards for scalability and maintainability.
- Implements automation for data ingestion, transformation, and distribution using ELT and ETL methodologies.
- Strong experience working with APIs for data integration and processing.
Metadata Management & Data Standards
- Maintains a centralized metadata repository for cross-referencing information requirements, data definitions, and standards.
- Documents and enforces data management policies and standards across departments.
Technical Leadership & Innovation
- Researches and recommends emerging ELT/ETL technologies and data processing techniques.
- Enhances professional knowledge by attending conferences and advanced training.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates for the Data Management Architect will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Qualified candidates for the Sr. Data Management Architect will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, plus 2 years of internal team experience. Candidate will have a demonstrated skill set across the full suite of tools used by the team. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Proven experience leading ELT/ETL implementations in large-scale data projects.
- Strong understanding of cloud-based data processing frameworks (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery).
- Experience in database tuning and performance optimization for ELT/ETL workloads.
- Strong programming skills in Python for automation and data processing.
- Experience working with API-based data integration and distributed data architectures.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
