Hourly Range: $14.83 - $18.47

Position Summary: Serves as a Firefighter Apprentice Firefighter (ARFF) at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. This is a career development program. While in this position the apprentice will complete the following courses, State of Wisconsin 1 and 2, National registered EMT-Advanced, ARFF, ICS 100,200,300700, Hazmat Technician, and the Joint Fire Training Academy. Upon completing the Apprentice will be promoted into a Firefighter/Equipment Operator position.

Position Responsibilities: Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF): Serves as Firefighter Apprentice ARFF; Attend all classes, inspect vehicles and equipment to the most advantageous position during aircraft emergencies; deploy hoselines to perform firefighting, rescue, resupply, and perform salvage operations. Repair/refill firefighting equipment.



  • Education: Attend all classes assigned and the Fire Academy. This is the primary focus while in this position.
  • Emergency Medical Response: Respond to medical emergencies and provide care to airport patrons and/or employees.
  • Equipment and Supply Maintenance: Maintain all assigned emergency response equipment in good working condition. Report any out of service equipment and facilitate repair by maintenance personnel.
  • Perform Inspections: Perform inspections of ARFF vehicles, buildings, structures, fuel facilities, and fuel vehicles for hazards.
  • Participate in training and instruction: Participate in training evolutions. Complete all required training within pre-established timelines. Complete proficiency training as directed.
  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain quarters and surrounding areas in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition.
  • Other Duties as assigned: Provide information for reports and perform such other duties as may be assigned.



Minimum Requirements:



  • Current Resident of Wisconsin
  • Valid WI Driving License
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 18 years of age
  • A physical exam that meets National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards will be required.
  • Able to lift/carry/push/pull 100 lbs.


License:



  • Emergency Medical Technician Level B License highly desired.


Additional Job information:



  • This is a 40 hour per week, 18-24-month program to transition into a Firefighter/ Equipment Operator position.
  • Firefighter I Certification highly desired.
  • A physical exam that meets National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards will be required.


Note: This Original Examination is open to current residents of the State of Wisconsin. The selection process will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral, or performance tests, or other assessment methods.
