The Role

The Sr. Technician, Prototype, will report to the Sr. R&D Machining & Prototyping Lab Manager and will be responsible for assisting with prototype development and testing, EHS related activities, Pilot and Production Line related equipment and processes, Equipment/Calibration maintenance and assisting with general technical needs in the Prototyping Lab spaces.

Responsibilities



  • Must be able to operate 3D printing equipment, perform post-processing tasks and complete relevant maintenance activities.
  • Must be able to operate basic machine shop equipment (Table Saw, Band Saw, Drill Press, Sanders, Radial Arm Saw, Sand Blaster etc.)
  • Must be able to read and understand Electrical and Mechanical drawings.
  • Must be able to utilize solid modeling software to design and optimize prototypes.
  • Advanced understanding of prototype development with experience designing/creating prototypes.
  • Act as a mentor to engineers in the creator space who has need of assistance with technical skills.
  • Advanced understanding of good laboratory and shop practices
  • Requires no supervision, excellent at self-training on standardized test methods, protocols, and work instructions. Can self-define work direction from project needs or from colleagues outside of the shop.
  • Excellent time management skills to effectively manage work to ensure timely, quality driven execution of deliverables.
  • Excellent project management skills, setting project / task deadlines, managing technician schedules, machine utilization and appropriately prioritize workload for organization, self, and others.
  • Excellent sense of self discipline in completing assigned tasks, knows personal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and limits; seeks feedback; gains insights from mistakes; is open to criticism; isn't defensive. Controls self and manages weaknesses; pursues what one thinks is right.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accomplishes tasks thoroughly through concern for all areas involved. Monitors and checks work or information and plans and organizes time and resources efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills, can effectively communicate, interact with, present to, and work with many different people and groups about testing, project work, laboratory capabilities, and technical product information.



Qualifications

Required



  • 5-10 years minimum experience as a technician in the medical device or automation industry
  • AA or Journeyman degree or qualifications
  • Experience with prototyping/device creation utilizing varied materials and methods.
  • Experience with 3D printing including builds, processing, and maintenance.
  • EHS experience including audits, process drafting, good laboratory practices, and safety reviews.
  • Working knowledge of CAD
  • Expert knowledge of engineering drawings including mechanical and electrical (GD&T, ANSI, ISO)
  • Expert knowledge of mechanical and electrical tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills
  • Use of precision measuring tools, i.e., calipers, micrometer, depth gauge
  • Solid knowledge of engineering principles, scientific analysis, and project management
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects across several locations.



Preferred



  • Candidates with Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Knowledge of polymer processing techniques including injection molding and extrusion
  • Advanced understanding of Design for Prototyping and 3D printing
  • Working knowledge of solid modeling software (Solidworks/Creo preferred)
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing assembly processes including but not limited to polyurethane balloon forming, radiofrequency tipping equipment, pad printing, bonding with different adhesive methodologies (UV, solvent, mechanical), vision systems, leak testing equipment, machining, metal working and delivering RF ablation technologies.
