Position Summary
The Equipment Manager will be responsible for all equipment maintenance and repair, parts and inventory, and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment. The Equipment Manager will be a hands-on leader guiding, training, coaching, and assisting the Assistant Equipment Mechanic in the repair and maintenance of turf equipment and vehicle fleets, parts fabrication, and parts and equipment inventory. The Equipment Manager will be motivated, enthusiastic, and united with the maintenance team to produce desired golf course conditions.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Ability to communicate professionally with staff, vendors, suppliers, members, and guests.
  • Knowledge of turf equipment, including cutting unit set-up, cutting unit reel theory, hydraulics, electrical theory, diagnostics, combustion engines, and welding.
  • Ability to fabricate parts, including cutting, folding, casting, forging, machining, shearing, punching, stamping, or welding.
  • Ability to read and follow manuals, understand preventive maintenance requirements and schedules, and repair equipment.
  • Know and can utilize various trade tools and their safety guidelines.
  • Have a basic understanding of the game of golf and the effects turf equipment has on course playability.
  • Familiarity with managing a budget.
  • Ability to utilize computer software systems such as a purchase order system, excel, word, and Preventative Maintenance Software.

Work in adverse weather conditions (extreme heat or cold, etc). May require occassional heavy lifting. Use of heavy equipment. Driving.

  • Lead, manage, guide, train, develop and coach the Assistant Equipment Mechanic in maintaining, diagnosing and repairing turf equipment, inventory management and other shop responsibilities.
  • Maintain a stocked and orderly parts inventory, including having positive working relationships with suppliers and vendors.
  • Establish and adjust daily, weekly, and monthly repair and maintenance schedules based on equipment requirements and course maintenance schedules.
  • Perform daily course checks to ensure cut quality and proper operation of equipment.

  • Establish and maintain a complete and accurate record of equipment, liquids, parts, equipment conditions, repairs, and the costs of repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Establish and maintain an organized, clean, and safe shop.
  • Prepare, recommend, and manage the equipment budget, monitor costs and expenditures, identify variances, and recommend and implement corrective action as necessary.

  • Promote and ensure that all health, safety, and environmental regulations are known, understood, and practiced, including proper disposal of waste oils, tires, etc.

  • Repair and maintain golf course greens fans and irrigation pump systems
