Open to undergraduate and graduate students interested in gaining hands-on practical experience in the environmental health and safety (EH&S) field. Qualified applicants will assist project teams in managing EH&S programs on projects.
Reporting Relationship: Interns will report to an EH&S Manager.
You will be learning the environmental health and safety management aspects of the manufacturing environment. Your experience will be directed by the EH&S Manager and Supervisor, and may include some or all the following examples:
- Assist in environmental projects related to sustainability, solid waste recycling, wastewater treatment, and water use/re-use.
- Assist in health and safety projects in ergonomic improvements, chemical management, employee/contractor safety programs.
- Improve existing EH&S training programs or develop new training material.
- Participate in internal audits for EH&S throughout production areas or support departments.
- Assist in performing regular job site inspections to identify, document and recommend mitigation of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions and verify correction actions s have been completed.
- Assist in incident investigations to include interviews, data compilation, photographs and completing proper documentation.
Desired candidates will be able to demonstrate:
- Proficiency with the full Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, TEAMS, etc).
- Professional communications skills verbally as well as in written format.
- Responsible team membership: commitment to the Project team, participation with company expectations, dedication to improving the safety culture throughout the business unit.
- Preferred candidates should be pursuing a degree in environmental science, health and safety management, or a closely related field of study.
- Reliable transportation is required.
Working Conditions
- Work may be conducted in any of the following environments: indoor office settings, indoor clean rooms, plant maintenance areas, wastewater treatment plant, chemical handling areas, and outdoor settings requiring sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending.
- Work hours may vary based on project demand and candidate availability but are estimated at 20 hours per week.
- Noise level varies based on location
- Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
- Will climb stairs and potentially ladders.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to, steel toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, goggles, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.
Work periods are 10-12 weeks; ~20 hours/week. Pay Range $20 - 23 per hour (Actual base pay based on factors such as relevant experience, education, market, qualifications, and skills)
