We are currently seeking motivated candidates for a Full Time Senior Portfolio Underwriter position at our Mortgage Center in Auburn Hills, MI. Position Purpose: Reviews and analyzes underwriting documentation used to support a lending decision for a mortgage, including the application employment, income, assets, liabilities, credit history, purchase agreement and appraisal in order to determine whether a mortgage application conforms to credit union and secondary market guidelines. In addition a Senior Underwriter will act as a trainer and mentor for the other underwriters and will be responsible for underwriting the more complex portfolio loans including those that are New Construction loans, and Super Jumbo loans. Job Duties (include but not limited to):
- Identifies potential risks and mitigating factors that could impact the member's ability to repay the loan..
- Analyzes credit, income, assets, purchase agreements, appraisal, title work, homeowner insurance, compliance and other relevant information in order to make a prudent lending decision.
- Effectively formulates risk based decisions on credit worthiness of borrowers in accordance with the applicable current Fannie Mae, credit union and Ability to Repay underwriting guidelines.
- Completes a thorough analysis of loan files to determine accuracy against supporting documents in file and compliance with applicable credit union, agency, and/or regulatory guidelines.
- Checks accuracy of all calculations related to the file.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years of underwriting in a secondary marketing environment.
- Experience with DU and/or LP required.
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Knowledge of mortgage related requirements, procedures, FHA, VA, and Fannie Mae and portfolio underwriting criteria.
