Under the direction of the Coordinator of Health & Specialized Student Services, the Educational Associate-12month: Autism Waiver Program works as a member of the Autism Waiver team to ensure that allowable services under the State of Maryland Autism Waiver Program are rendered to all qualifying students. Provides direct services, consultation, and case management to families of children who are eligible to receive services as a result of enrollment into this specialized program.


Essential Functions



  • Provides monthly Autism Waiver service coordination to eligible children and their families.
  • Works in conjunction with the Lead Autism Waiver service coordinator to determine initial eligibility.
  • Collaborates with school psychologists in order to facilitate the annual redetermination of Waiver eligibility for each student.
  • Conducts annual homes visits with families.
  • Maintains monthly contacts with participants and families via mail, email, telephone, provider site, or home visit.
  • Orchestrates annual redetermination meetings with participant families.
  • Updates participant Plans of Care annually or more often if the needs of the participant change.
  • Reviews and maintains provider treatment plans for each participant.
  • Maintains accurate, accessible records to meet all state and federal monitoring requirements.
  • Monitors billing and payment procedures for service providers and agencies.
  • Participates in and supervises Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings serving as the BCPS representative and/or the service coordinator when appropriate.
  • Facilitates quarterly visits to the Autism Waiver participant including a minimum of one home visit annually.
  • Conducts assessments with families in order to determine the needs of the child and family. Assists families and providers in problem solving as issues arise.
  • Serves as a liaison to families, schools, and community service providers.
  • Assists parents by answering questions throughout the Waiver process.
  • Assists families in locating community resources as well as planning for transition.
  • Attends state Autism Waiver update meetings and conveys any current information as necessary.
  • Completes risk assessments if the needs of the participant change.
  • Reviews and responds to Reportable Events received from providers.
  • Provides crisis intervention support and consultation regarding available services on a 24-hour, 7 day a week basis.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in General Education, Special Education, Mental Health, or other Human Service field required.
  • Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Experience working with or teaching students with special needs.
  • Dual certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Autism Waiver preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
