Summary

Develops and applies engineering design methods, CAD tools, theories, and techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems. Remains abreast of the most modern engineering concepts through personal learning initiatives and continuing education programs while applying this knowledge to assigned tasks when appropriate. This position pertains primarily to the Mechanical Engineering segment of flight simulator design/development and is largely project oriented. Task assignments may transcend several projects/programs simultaneously.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops mechanical designs for military training devices, including mechanisms and electro-mechanical devices

  • Interpret customer design specifications and requirements

  • Generates technical documentation describing designs, prefer experience with GD&T

  • Support manufacturing processes and Quality inspection requirements; Develops test plans and unit testing

  • Teamwork, involving close association with peers, and management is essential to coordinating engineering activities in an efficient and cost effective manner.

  • May perform other engineering and non-engineering duties as required by supervisor.

  • Carry out significant and varied engineering assignments requiring general familiarity with a broad field of engineering and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other fields.

  • Advise colleagues and other department on technical issues & problems based on in-depth knowledge of product.

  • Participate in proposal activities by compiling cost estimate and reviewing project proposal.

  • Ensure project expenditures are within budget and discuss critical project changes or modifications with management.

  • Provide mentoring and/or training to junior mechanical engineers and designers.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree.

  • Must possess at least 5 years mechanical engineering experience or experience in related industry.

  • SolidWorks, Creo, or other similar design software, utilizing Model Based Definition

  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of Mechanical Engineering

  • Detail oriented.

  • Must have good oral and written communication skills

  • Must be able to solve technical and other business issues in a logical fashion

Security Responsibilities

Must complywith all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Work Environment

  • May be required to sit down for long lengths of time.

  • May be required to climb stairs.

  • Ability to travel extensively worldwide.

  • Must be able to work overtime and on off-shifts as required.

  • Work is performed in an environment where irritants such as noise from telephones, temperature, and lighting variations may exist, but there is little chance of injury, accident, or occupational health problems.
