Position Summary:

The Journey Service Shop person will service, repair, and maintain a wide variety of the facility's rolling stock and power equipment.

Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Comply with safety standards at all times and correct/report any observed safety hazards.
  • Perform service, repair, and maintenance on rolling stock and power equipment (diesel, gas, propane, and electric), including the fabrication of parts and the assembly of machinery.
  • Utilize the maintenance management system to track the completion of rolling stock inspections/services and to manage the maintenance workorder process.
  • Manage spare part inventories.
  • Promptly advise management of extraordinary expenditures that may be required and of issues related to key areas of responsibility.
  • Complete necessary courses to maintain required certifications, examples of which are liquid propane gas, aerial lift, mobile crane, and articulated boom lift safety trainings. May require travel.
  • Clean and maintain working area and equipment while complying with environmental rules and regulations when disposing waste.
  • Propose new ideas to reduce maintenance costs and/or increase equipment reliability.
  • Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
  • On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.


Position Requirements: Must meet requirements to be considered a candidate for this position.



  • Minimum of three (3) years of combined schooling and work experience in heavy mobile equipment maintenance.
  • Liquid Propane Gas certification preferred.
  • The individual's additional certifications must remain valid to maintain tier status.
  • Possess a basic understanding of welding, cutting, and fitting; troubleshooting equipment and systems (including pneumatic and hydraulic); maintaining components; operating machinery; and properly using tools related to the trade preferred.
  • Ability to provide own tools to perform service shop activities.
  • Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.


Environmental Conditions:

May be exposed to dust, noise, trip hazards, and variable weather and temperatures.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, a face shield and a respirator.
