Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)

Artesia, New Mexico

Summary:

The objective of this requirement is to oversee and manage comprehensive firearms support for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) operators, mission planners, and other key personnel within the FLETC. The Supervisor will be responsible for leading a team of Armorers and support staff to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and security of all firearms and related equipment.

Key responsibilities include supervising the inspection, maintenance, and repair of firearms to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Supervisor will manage weapons inventory control, oversee issuance and receipt of firearms, enforce strict accountability measures, and maintain detailed records to ensure compliance with federal policies. Additionally, the role requires coordinating storage and security protocols for all weapons and ammunition.

The Supervisor will also work closely with firearms instructors and training personnel, ensuring that weapons are properly prepared for instruction, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and providing expert guidance on firearms systems, maintenance procedures, and best practices. This position demands strong leadership, strategic planning, and adherence to safety and security policies while supporting DHS training and operational readiness objectives.

Job Duties:



  • Responsible for the management and oversight of the weapons and ammunition inventory.
  • Ensure the efficiency and accuracy of weapon cleaning and inspection cycle.
  • Monitor weapon repairs and test fires completed by Range Masters.
  • Assist Government with management of target inventory.
  • Coordinate Range Operations with adjacent agency personnel.
  • Responsible for the management of all department personnel.


Basic Qualifications:



  • At least two years of total experience in weapons maintenance and gun repair for semiautomatic handguns, rifles, shotguns, and specialized weapons systems.
  • Experience in range operations (military or police).
  • Graduate from a recognized agency, such as a Gunsmith/Armorer or Range master school for law enforcement, the National Rifle Association, a military service school, a federal service school, etc.
  • Ability to complete government-provided training and perform Hazardous Waste Satellite
  • Accumulation Area and Universal Hazardous Waste management responsibilities by the FLETC-OAO Hazardous Waste Management Plan provided in Section J - Attachment 14.
  • Obtain Tier II access for SASS scheduling and TAMS support.
  • Management or supervisory experience
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs (i.e.; Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Possess the leadership and tenacity required to manage a team of 10 in a dynamic and difficult work environment.

  • Prior Military service is preferred.

Working Environment:

The working environment for this supervisory role involves operating in a fast-paced, federally regulated training and operational setting. Based at the FLETC, the supervisor will oversee firearms maintenance, storage, and distribution within secure armory facilities, workshops, and firearms training ranges. This environment requires strict adherence to safety standards, meticulous inventory management, and consistent compliance with federal regulations and organizational protocols.

The supervisor will often work in climate-controlled armories and maintenance areas, but may also spend time outdoors on live-fire ranges and in classroom settings. These workspaces can vary in noise level, with occasional exposure to loud environments during live-fire exercises. The supervisor must maintain security and accountability in all aspects of the operation, ensuring that firearms and ammunition are properly stored and tracked.

In addition, this role involves significant interaction with law enforcement instructors, trainees, and planning staff. The supervisor may need to travel occasionally to support off-site training or inspections, adapting to various field conditions while maintaining high standards of operational readiness and safety. This environment demands a hands-on leadership approach, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively coordinate team members and resources in support of DHS mission objectives.
