About this role

• Assist in the goal of reunification of parents with their children and/or the development of appropriate alternative permanent plans.
• Meet regularly with the parent to review service planning, provider reports, goals and progress.
• Work with the parents' attorneys to assist the parents in assessing and asserting their rights in the child welfare/court process.
• Advocate for cultural appropriate services and services that fit a parent's schedule, location and needs.
• Work with the parent peer mentor to troubleshoot any visitation issues.
• Collaborate with OKDHS and other service providers, as needed, to address barriers or challenges related to service coordination or planning and/or crisis intervention.
• Assist the parents in preparation for meetings with service providers and court hearings.
• At the request of the parent, attend Family Team Meetings, court hearings, court staffings, and individual meetings with the OKDHS caseworker.
• Collect and evaluate the parents' existing social work, psychological and treatment records/reports/evaluations.
• Consult with the attorney to determine if new mental health assessments/evaluations are needed and if so, arrange for them to be conducted.
• Document and interpret symptoms of mental and behavioral impairment to assist the attorney in developing case strategies throughout the various stages of legal proceedings.
• Assist the attorney to better understand the parents' needs so that the attorney can have been communication with, and provide more effective advocacy, for the parents.
• Research and recommend and, if necessary, link parents to appropriate community-based resources and treatment agencies.
• Assist in locating relevant child welfare research.
• Assist in researching OKDHS Administrative Policies and Procedures.
• Review case reports/discovery for attorney upon request.
• Assist in locating expert services.
• Assist in preparing alternative individualized service plans.
• Where appropriate, provide crisis intervention services and short-term case work.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Social Work
• Current licensure as a LMSW or LCSW in the State of Oklahoma.

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience working with vulnerable populations in multiple settings.
• Experience writing social histories.
