Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Career Coordinator will be responsible for supporting career development and internships for the Inclusive Futures Program at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, including all aspects of working with the Division of Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities (formerly Vocational Rehabilitation) and
ARC of NC. This role involves coordinating, organizing, and managing all activities and operations related to the career development of students with intellectual disabilities housed within the Inclusive Futures Program at
UNCW. This position will support the Director and Assistant Director in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations of the program, including delivering employment training classes, supporting job coaching for student internships, and facilitating student transition between semesters and after graduation. This position will supervise the inclusive education coaches, who will provide one-on-one internship and employment support to students participating in the Inclusive Futures Program. This position will assist students by offering guidance to help them understand job tasks, workplace culture, and employer expectations while students are participating in their internship placements and in other job opportunities on and off campus. This position will ensure that the appropriate job accommodations and strategies have been implemented at the worksite. This position will be responsible for documentation and maintaining accurate notes to record student progress. Additionally, they will assist students in identifying and developing employment opportunities and support applying to jobs, resume writing, and interview preparation. This role requires strong organizational skills, time management, effective communication with multiple stakeholders, and a strong commitment to supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities to achieve their employment goals. The ideal candidate will have experience in employment support and working with diverse populations, particularly individuals with intellectual disabilities. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Special Education or related fields (Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment). |

- Master's of Special Education and/or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

The Inclusive Futures Program, housed within the Division of Student Affairs, supports individuals with intellectual disabilities in becoming independent. It provides academic, career, and independent living instruction tailored to each student's needs. By prioritizing inclusion in campus life and offering necessary support services, the program helps students build the skills and confidence needed for independence, as well as, fostering diversity and aligning with UNCW's Strategic Plan and Priorities.
The program supports independence in several ways:
Person-Centered Planning: Tailored instruction focuses on each student's unique needs and goals, helping them develop skills for independent living. Career Preparation: Students receive training and support to prepare for employment, enhancing their ability to secure and maintain jobs. Independent Living Skills: The program teaches essential life skills, such as managing finances, navigating public transportation, and personal care. Inclusive Campus Experience: By participating in campus life with appropriate support, students build confidence and social skills, fostering a sense of independence. Support Services: Necessary accommodations and resources are provided to ensure students can fully engage in their educational and social experiences.
