Sr. Exploratory R&D Engineer

About the Role:

At Boston Scientific, the Sr. Exploratory R&D Engineer will develop complex proof of concept prototypes to demonstrate the technical feasibility of new novel and next generation medical devices. You will operate independently, or as part of a small team, to understand clinical needs and invent creative and novel product solutions. You will use hands on skills to fabricate prototypes, conduct testing, and report results to the exploratory team.

Your Responsibilities Include:




  • Consistently generates innovative and unique solutions to market needs and submits idea disclosures. Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined products, processes or equipment.
  • Proficient in 3D Modeling software such as Solidworks (preferred) or similar.
  • Hands on experience with the creative use of common fabrication methods and rapid prototyping techniques to create proof of concept devices.
  • Builds and tests small electromechanical prototypes using open-source microcontrollers.
  • Experience with image sensors and optics is a plus.
  • Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from complex test results.
  • Designs and coordinates complex engineering tests and experiments.
  • Coordinates, manages, and documents project goals and progress and recommends appropriate updates to objectives.
  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment.
  • Interfaces with Physicians and other hospital personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
  • Translates customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.
  • Responsible for engineering documentation.
  • May train and/or provide work direction to less senior engineers.

  • Bachelor's degree required, Electrical, Mechanical or similar engineering degree
  • 5+ years of related engineering experience
  • Proactive Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to identify issues and opportunities and take the initiative to address them without waiting for direction.
  • Decision-Making Skills: Proven track record of making sound decisions independently, even in the absence of complete information.
  • Adaptability: Ability to quickly adapt to new situations and challenges, showing resilience and flexibility.

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) - see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com--will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
