The energy sector is transforming-and the nation needs innovative, data-driven minds to secure an energy future that is affordable, reliable, and sustainable.

At KeyLogic, you will play a meaningful role in meeting these challenges. As the prime contractor supporting the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) under the Strategic Analysis (SA) contract, KeyLogic evaluates the technical, economic, resource, environmental, policy, and market aspects of complex energy systems. Our multidisciplinary teams apply sound engineering principles, deep domain expertise, and analytical leadership to shed light on new energy concepts and technologies to inform decision-makers.

KeyLogic is seeking to expand its Energy Analysis team with multiple positions available across disciplines and levels of experience.

We welcome applications from those with strong technical backgrounds, especially in engineering, science, economics, and statistics. A successful candidate might be an early-career chemical engineer (with a nascent interest in CO2 capture), or an established luminary in environmental science with a lengthy publication record and Ph.D.

What You Will Do

The Energy Analysis team applies technical analytical tools to local, state, and national energy challenges in the domains of energy technology development, resource sustainability, and carbon management. The team supports NETL in five areas of analytical competency:

O Energy market & infrastructure analysis

O Environmental life cycle analysis (LCA)

O Process & cost engineering research

O Process systems engineering research

O Resource & subsurface analysis

For example, a successful candidate may conduct a techno-economic analysis of combined-cycle natural gas turbine supply chains, or program an LCA model to better assess environmental effects of growth in solar thermal generation .

Mid-career hires may be tasked with contributing to program planning and management, external outreach and collaboration, and coordination of special projects. Experienced hires will function as "senior thought leaders," developing new and novel analytical methods while supervising and mentoring junior team members.

Key responsibilities include:

O Quickly learn and assess technologies, data, operations, markets, and policies related to specific energy systems

O Oversee the development of complex quantitative models or scenarios related to the U.S. energy system and climate policies

O Communicate findings in high-quality deliverables and public-facing presentations, reports, memos, research papers, articles, etc.

O Keep current with industry trends, technological breakthroughs, and changes in policies and markets

What We're Looking For

Note: these positions are Hybrid/Remote. Our preference is for candidates near Pittsburgh, PA, or Morgantown, WV; remote work may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Basic Qualifications

O Bachelor's in engineering (chemical, mechanical, or environmental), science (geology, environmental), economics, statistics/data science, or equivalent

O Proficiency in one or more: Python, R, MATLAB, Stata, SPSS, NEMS, C++, gPROMS, Aspen, AIMMS, Pyomo, openLCA, or similar

O Experience and/or interest in decarbonization, renewable power, hydrogen, environmental or climate policy, carbon capture, grid and utility programs, transportation infrastructure. or other energy technology sectors

O The ability to work independently, as well as in a structured team environment alongside federal and other technical services contractors

O Ability to pass background checks and obtain security clearances as required by clients

Preferred Qualifications

O Master's or Ph.D. in engineering, economics, statistics/data science, or equivalent

O Expertise or mastery of economic theory models of energy markets, energy balances, energy sector demand-side economics; fiscal policy, greenhouse gas reporting protocols, or equivalent domains
