As an Experienced Senior Tax Associate, you will assist the state direct tax function and will be involved in all aspects of the state direct tax practice, including compliance, provision, planning, and special projects. Depending on your career goals, you will also have opportunities to become involved with federal and international tax projects as well as M&A transactions.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will gain exposure to a wide variety of tax matters including:



  • Assist in leading the apportionment process including day-to-day activities for all legal entities supporting property, payroll, and sales data and related nexus/sourcing determinations
  • Lead and support ad-hoc apportionment requests for state income tax audits
  • Prepare state and local income tax returns as assigned by management
  • Support quarterly and long-range state effective tax rate calculations
  • Research state direct tax technical issues, document conclusions and refine tax processes
  • Develop strong relationships with accounting/finance, IT, and tax personnel to maximize opportunities within the state direct tax team
  • Participate in state direct tax planning, compliance including estimated payments, provision, controversy, state R&D study, and M&A activities as directed by tax leadership

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of tax or accounting experience in a public accounting firm or equivalent experience in a large corporate tax department
  • Proven communication, organization, and project planning skills
  • Solid computer data literacy including intermediate proficiency with the Microsoft products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize assignments and manage workload within statutory and internal deadlines
  • Motivated team player who has an interest in federal and state taxes



Preferred Qualifications:



  • CPA, Masters of Business Tax ("MBT")
  • 4+ years of tax or accounting experience in a public accounting firm or equivalent experience in a large corporate tax department
  • Knowledge of state and local direct tax laws and regulations
  • Experience with Microsoft's PowerBI Automation software

The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $140,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
