As a Nuclear Instrumentation Intern at INL, you will work on a project focused on nuclear instrument detector sensitivities for the Plant and Project Engineering Group Advanced Test Reactor. In this role, you will apply engineering principles to analyze and refine instrumentation performance, ensuring accurate and reliable reactor monitoring. You will engage in hands-on work with nuclear detectors, instrumentation systems, and control methodologies, collaborating with experienced engineers to enhance ATR's nuclear measurement capabilities.

Your Responsibilities:



  • Determine and analyze nuclear instrument detector sensitivities to improve reactor monitoring accuracy.
  • Work with instrumentation and control systems to evaluate and enhance nuclear measurement capabilities.
  • Assist in system testing and calibration to ensure reliable data collection and performance.
  • Collaborate with engineers to refine instrumentation models and methodologies for ATR operations.


This team works a 4x10 schedule and works onsite at the Advance Test Reactor next Idaho Falls Idaho. Start date and duration of internship vary based on project and student availability. You may be eligible for course credit for this internship if approved by your university.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate students enrolled full time at an accredited college/university studying Nuclear or Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum overall 3.0 GPA
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)

Compensation and Benefits:



  • Undergraduate Internships ($26.16/hour - $31.47/hour)
  • Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($32.87/hour - $35.26/hour)
  • PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($35.95/hour - $38.41/hour)
  • Eligible interns are provided paid holiday time off, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on degree field and level of education.
