Westrock Coffee is seeking a skilled and detail oriented Regulatory Affairs Manager to join our Corporate Food safety and Quality Assurance team. This position plays a key role in ensuring that all manufactured products meet regulatory and compliance standards. The ideal candidate will be responsible for navigating the complex regulatory landscape governing food and beverage products and is required to have a good understanding of local, national and international food safety and labeling regulations. Strong communication skills are required to work with both internal stake holders and external customers and regulatory agencies both domestic and international.
Job Duties:


  • Ensure compliance with applicable national and international regulations governing the beverage industry including but not limited to FDA, PMO, LACF, FSMA and other governing bodies and regulations
  • Interpret and implement regulations to ensure product safety, quality and regulatory approval.
  • Develops, implements, continuously improves, and audits existing Quality management systems to proactively identify and resolve regulatory risks
  • Subject matter expert in nutritional laws and labeling requirements for the beverage industry
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving nutritional information, labels, health and marketing claims generated by cross functional teams. Manage approvals of all labels from internal stakeholders as well as regulatory and customer approvals
  • Provide guidance on health, nutrition and allergen claims to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Develop and implement strategies and processes for regulatory approvals and product life cycle management in relation to regulation changes that may affect existing label claims
  • Expectation to attend labeling and regulatory conferences to keep abreast of constant changes in the complex regulatory world
  • Work cross functionally with product development, marketing, commercialization and quality assurance teams to ensure regulatory requirements are incorporated into the product development process.
  • Identify and work with external regulatory consultants, to build Westrock expertise on different countries and their food safety requirement to import/ export.
  • Periodic KPI reporting of regulatory performance to the leadership team and advise senior leadership of proposed and upcoming changes in the regulatory world affecting food and beverages
  • Work with Westrock's legal department to review legal contracts for FSQA and regulatory verbiage for different stakeholders with whom Westrock Coffee conducts business
  • Maintain a good understanding of compliance programs like Kosher, Organic, Halal, Non-GMO and ensure program compliance requirements are communicated to different facility compliance departments so they can implement it in the facilities
  • Provide training and regulatory updates to internal teams on new regulations and compliance processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Up to 25% of travel may be expected with this role


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Regulatory Affairs, Biology, Microbiology or other relevant degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of experience in Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory Affairs in a food-manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of FDA rules/regulations and of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Food Safety, HACCP, HARPC, FSMA, process controls and other technical aspects of food manufacturing.
  • Understanding of food law and food labeling requirements
  • Experience with Low Acid Food manufacturing is desirable
  • Knowledge of the Food Safety Modernization Act including Preventive Controls for Human Food and Intentional Adulteration
  • Experience with Genesis or similar nutritional software is highly desirable
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Food safety certifications e.g.: HACCP, SQF, PCQI
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels in the organization
