Job Description:

Perkins Coie LLP is looking for a talented and dynamic individual to join our team as a Tax Litigation Paralegal with our Private Client Services practice group. The Paralegal will, under supervision, assist lawyers with document and information management, factual and legal analysis, discovery, and trial support.

In addition, as a member of the Perkins Coie LLP business professional support team, this position is also responsible for promoting and maintaining the goodwill and reputation of the firm. In this capacity, the Tax Litigation Paralegal is expected to maintain the highest level of professional conduct and confidentiality.

This position requires 2-4 days in the office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation.

  • Assist lawyers with all phases of case support including document/information management, factual and legal research and analysis, discovery, hearings, and trial support.
  • Organize and maintain case files, pleadings, other documents, and notebooks.
  • Review and synthesize historical case documents.
  • Summarize articles, reports, witness statements, and depositions.
  • Prepare material for in-house and outside distribution.
  • Draft basic legal documents and correspondence.
  • Keep track of case/matter deadlines and interface with attorneys regularly to ensure deadlines are being met.
  • Maintain departmental form files and systems.
  • Knowledge and use of e-discovery platforms such as Relativity and DISCO.
  • Maintain timely and accurate time records.
  • Maintain positive contact with clients, lawyers, and business professionals, and observe confidentiality of client matters.
  • Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as required by the position, consistent with the firm's attendance expectations.
  • Working additional hours beyond the normal schedule may be required to meet firm and/or client demands.

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated skills in document/information management.
  • Ability to express self effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with firm lawyers, business professionals, client personnel, and other professionals.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and multiple concurrent deadlines.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and independently.

SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED

  • Knowledge of various phases of litigation, discovery, tax disputes, probate and general trial procedures. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and exercise discretion and independent judgment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Requires a 4-year degree and 2 years of paralegal experience.
  • Paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Experience with litigation court procedures in the United States Tax Court and Texas state courts a plus.
  • Experience with automated litigation support software required.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance, accrued paid time off plan starting at 20 days annually, personal medical and parental leave, up to 10 paid holidays, and family care benefits. This position may be filled in the following location(s). The listed compensation range reflects the typical pay for this role, though it is rare for new hires to receive an offer at the top of the range. Actual compensation may vary depending on experience, skills, market conditions, and internal equity.

Washington state compensation range: $53,680 to $85,890 annually
