General Purpose of Job: Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer or designen, this Registered Nurseassumes authority delegated, and assists in organization and administrative responsibilities. Representing the Hospital Administration while on duty and on call hours with total supervisory responsibility for the Hospital plant and operations. Assumes final authority for all department within the Hospital during evening, nights, weekends and holidays. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate the hospital's mission, vision, and values, as well as departmental goals, to all staff.
- Provides leadership and guidance to other leaders and staff in goal setting, problem solving, resource management, and outcome achievement
- Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage change, as well as help others do the same.
- Collaborates with other departments to create systems and problem solve ongoing issues that impact departmental/organizational goals and patient care delivery.
- Demonstrates fiscal accountability for department resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to department functions.
- Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of objectives, policies, and operational plans for the Patient Services Department
- Assists in review and evaluation of staffing budget needs as they relate to the operational plan.
- Assists in maintaining a central work schedule for the Nursing department and is accountable for adjusting staffing needs based on acuity/census.
- Works with clinical managers to maintain continuity of patient care.
- Participates in discharge planning and patient education programs as outlined by Hospital procedure.
- Maintains current knowledge of new developments in the Nursing profession and in Nursing education.
- Identifies educational needs of associates and customers and provides or coordinates resources to meet those needs.
- Participates in resolution of conflict and perceived problems. Completes and or submits any documentation required in a timely fashion.
- Appropriately conducts discussions with families regarding organ and tissue donations, post-mort em examinations and funeral homes to facilitate the safe and timely care of the deceased.
- Is responsible for the department's operational excellence and ensures that the department delivers quality services, in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards
- Manages the Patient Services Department to ensure quality services and promote positive employee relations.
- Appropriately assigns patients to available beds.
Job Requirements
General Requirements |
* Current RN License for the State of Michigan |
Work Experience |
* Minimum three years progressively responsible nursing experience. |
Education |
* Bachelors of Science in Nursing required |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Demonstrated leadership skills. * Wide range of experience and knowledge concerning all nursing departments and procedures. * Ability to analyze numbers. * Excellent communication skills. * Aptitude for handling discrepancies with management and coworkers. * Must be able to organize multiple major issues at one time. * Must be able to work with several management level persons at the same time and bring issues to a successful conclusion in a reasonable period of time. * Must have time management skills. |
