Position Overview

We are seeking a results-oriented Business Development Manager with a strong background in industrial distribution or MRO sales. Experience in metalworking, cutting tools, or machining environments is highly desired. This role is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, expanding our customer base, and developing long-term customer relationships. The idea candidate thrives in a consultative, solutions-based sales environment, understands industrial operations, and is confident navigating machine shops, plants, and maintenance teams.

This role requires regular in-person customer visits, local travel, and occasional out-of-state trips for vendor training, industry events, and sales meetings.

Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and execute a territory growth plan focused on winning new industrial/MRO accounts in the Portland area and beyond
  • Build a pipeline of qualified prospects through networking, referrals, cold outreach, and CRM (Proton.ai) activity
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify customer pain points, processes, and applications where Stellar can deliver measurable value
  • Present cost-saving and production-improving solutions, especially in metalworking and cutting tool applications, leveraging vendor partnerships and technical knowledge
  • Drive profitable growth through increased sales volume and improved gross margins
  • Establish repeat business relationships and strengthen customer loyalty through excellent follow-through and support
  • Document all sales activities, opportunities, and account strategies in Proton.ai
  • Partner closely with customer service and operations teams to ensure exceptional execution and service delivery
  • Attend industry training, supplier events, and sales meetings to maintain expertise and stay ahead of trends


Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Relationship-building skills at all levels with customers and prospect organizations
  • Ability to sell value versus price
  • Passion for helping people solve dynamic problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Great planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to quickly learn new processes and systems; analytical skills
  • Proficient in using the latest technology (CRM, smartphone, laptop)
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Willingness to work irregular schedule as necessary
  • Display a consistent positive, can-do attitude
  • Valid driver license and satisfactory driving record are required



Experience



  • 3-5 years proven B2B sales experience in developing new business, building repeat business and managing sales territory
  • Industrial tool experience or mechanical/technical aptitude highly desired



Education



  • High school diploma or equivalent
