Summary of Position:

Leadership role focused on continued improvement of the company's product lines utilizing principles of Lean Six Sigma and OEE concepts of availability, performance, and quality. Responsible for defining and improving the software testing and release processes, and ensuring all new and upgraded products are following the software development process and standards; creates and oversees group policies, procedures, training, and scheduling; schedules and performance requirements for the group. Also responsible for defining and improving the hardware design process, managing the hardware engineering associates, and ensuring all new or upgraded products are developed on time and follow the hardware design process and standards; creates and oversees group policies, procedures, training, associate development and scheduling; develops and administers schedules and performance requirements for the group.

Essential Functions:
  • PLC Programming for new and existing customer projects.
  • Provide support from electrical and controls perspective, as needed.
  • Play leadership role driving the company towards products availability, performance, and quality goals. Implement continuous improvement process and standards to achieve the goals.
  • Assigns project resources; facilitates the creation of detailed testing plans and prioritization of work.
  • Responsible for performance reviews for the team; contributes to a high-performing team by coaching and developing team members.
  • Leads detailed discussions relative to application systems and requirements; organizes meetings.
  • Reviews requirements, functional and design specifications.
  • Responsible for the health and stability of the development environments supporting smooth and highly efficient development operations.
  • Analyzes production issues, defines and creates tools that help mitigate problems in the system design and integration.
  • Identifies changes that are necessary to maintain optimal system performance
  • Develops solutions to monitor software health, performs log analysis, and automates system recovery.
  • Performs vulnerability and risk management for designated systems.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains tools that are used by internal engineering and customer service teams as they build, enhance, and support current and new products.
  • Provides technical leadership regarding state-of-the-art computer technologies and trends.
  • Prepares system design concepts, creates detailed designs, performs analysis, tests prototypes, and documents completed designs.
  • Perform system level design and analysis on products. This includes concept design and trade studies, including cost and performance, of electrical, mechanical and software as interrelated systems.
  • Uses hands-on approach for building and evaluating prototypes.
  • Interacts regularly with the project and product managers to discuss project goals, progress and solutions.
  • Provide support to Project Managers including mentoring, escalation, training, performance management. Define the roles and key steps to ensure consistent content and flow of information to better manage and prioritize projects as needs are always changing.
  • Influence cross-functional stake holders, and hold project managers and task owners accountable for delivering on time, on budget and with high quality. Escalate issues quickly and find ways to resolve them.
  • Develop and implement standards, metrics, processes and tools to ensure the efficient and effective execution of engineering projects through their full project life cycle - Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Closing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stake holders to ensure alignment on project scope, design control documentation, quality and schedule.
  • Ensure projects and processes adhere to quality management system design controls and are updated regularly to reflect latest updates.
  • Establish documentation standards across all product lines. Ensure complete standard documentation delivery with each project completion.
  • Collaborates with members of interdisciplinary teams to implement and release high quality, reliable, ergonomic designs to production, which may include participating:
    • in the design, requirements specification, coding, verification or test of software in accordance with internal standards and procedures.
    • in the electrical design, analysis, bread-boarding and/or test in accordance with internal standards and procedures.
    • in the mechanical design and analysis in accordance with internal standards and procedures.
  • Lead the team of professionals that includes Mechanical, Electrical, Controls Engineers, and Consulting Resources
  • Responsible for recruiting and performance management of direct reports; ensures they are poised to meet the company objectives and goals; provides development opportunities, coaching and mentorship as well as execution of individualized Training and Development Plans.
  • Provides fiscal leadership and continuous quality improvement principles and processes to improve quality and minimize operational expenses.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Competencies:
  • Basic knowledge of CAD design software
  • Strong knowledge of electrical design including schematics and layouts
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Allen Bradley, Beckhoff, etc.), Ladder Logic and Structured Text
  • Experience in a leadership role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, solid presentation skills, and proven ability to run effective meetings; comfortable interacting at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to participate and drive major organizational change and operational initiatives.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including high energy level, maturity, and creativity, with a demonstrated ability to achieve results through influence.

  • Project Management experience is a plus
  • Software Development Lifecycle experience is a plus
  • Understanding Lean Six Sigma principles and experience with Lean Six Sigma is a plus
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Visio) and Share Point.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as SVN is a plus
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
  • Basic understanding of server applications with database back end infrastructure
  • Basic understanding of client server environments, networking components, and client operating systems is a plus
  • Understanding of computer components and peripherals, and computer trends is plus
  • Good analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills to evaluate business problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions
  • Ability to travel as needed.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education, experience and specific training in these fields.
  • Master in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Certification and experience in Six Sigma is a plus
  • At least 3 years of experience in leadership role
  • Project management experience is a plus
  • Experience in healthcare automation is a plus
