Ever-Green Energy is looking for a team member to report to the Operations Manager at the Hennepin County Energy Center (HCEC). The Instrument and Controls (I&C) Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and calibration of process instrumentation and controls of the district heating and cooling equipment and customer buildings.

Minimum requirements to be successful in this role (must meet one of the following):

  • ISA CCST Level 1 Certification or similar certification.
  • Two-year degree in instrumentation, electronics, and controls.
  • 5-years professional experience working with instrumentation and controls.
  • Combination of course work and professional experience relating to instrumentation and controls.

Preferred requirements:

  • Low voltage electrical experience, course work, or certification.
  • Boiler operating experience and/or state of MN Boilers License.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain and calibrate plant and customer chilled water, steam meters, condensate, and other electronic and mechanical meters.
  2. Perform troubleshooting and routine maintenance on Distributed Controls Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and other instrumentation and controls equipment.
  3. Maintain records of equipment calibrations and maintenance history of plant equipment.
  4. Assist in job planning, and work scheduling, for responsible equipment, as to not interfere with plant operations and maintaining ample plant redundancy and reliability.
  5. Assist in planning and implementation of replacements, upgrades, and/or efficiency gains of system controls, metering, and other I&C related items.
  6. Become familiar and train on the operation of the chill water and steam process equipment and distribution systems, in order to gain the necessary experience to obtain State of MN Boilers Licensing, and to qualify as a Control Room Operator.
  7. Operate heating, cooling, distribution, and related equipment in a safe, efficient manner, ensuring compliance with all pertinent regulations.
  8. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on plant equipment and systems as directed to maintain reliability and continuity of plant operations.
  9. Perform inspections of plant equipment and systems, distribution piping, and facilities, in support of safety, regulatory compliance, and operations.
  10. Perform equipment isolations and lockouts to assure a high degree of personnel safety and equipment protection in support of maintenance and operations.
  11. Complete and maintain plant operating logs, records, maintenance documentation and other supporting paperwork as necessary.
  12. Perform general house-keeping activities such as: plant cleaning, painting and preservation of equipment and facilities, waste disposal, organization of storage of materials and others as assigned.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Control Systems, PLCs, varying types of meters, and other I&C related equipment and associated maintenance, troubleshooting, and operating practices.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, technical instructions and/or manuals, or other diagrams such as ladder logic, electrical circuitry, control systems and others.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data, troubleshoot equipment and trends, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of boiler and chill water operations and associated support systems is a plus.

The incumbent is frequently required to climb ramps or stairs; sit, stand or walk; use far visual acuity of 20 feet or more; and be able to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (machinery alarms, etc.). The employee is frequently required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; push and pull objects; reach at/below shoulder level and reach overhead; stoop, kneel and crouch; climb ladders/ropes/scaffolding; use gross manipulation to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hands; use fine manipulation to pick or pinch objects with fingers; confined space; and use peripheral vision. Must be capable of maneuvering throughout industrial facilities such as energy plants and building HVAC mechanical rooms, etc.

This is a union position with an hourly pay at $53.85.
