Job Summary: (Primary function)

The Scientific Data Engineer & Application Developer will have a proven track record of work experience with complex biological or chemical data in a drug discovery environment. As part of the Computational Biology & Data Science function of Translational Medicine, the incumbent will leverage their diverse range of development and data management skills to support, enhance, create, and integrate our scientific data management systems including but not limited to LIMS, Sample Management, and Inventory Management platforms. The incumbent will have opportunities to become involved with Incyte's AI expansion as he/she works closely with researchers and IT to enable scientific computing, workflow generation, data mining, machine learning, visualizations, and external partnerships which will ultimately empower the Incyte Discovery community to make more informed decisions.

Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)

  • Enable scientific insights through data management of diverse biological & chemical data.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain in-house and commercial applications.
  • Interface with Discovery to gather requirements and support suite of ChemCart applications.
  • Data integration/migration & core system harmonization: ChemCart/Genedata/Benchling/Other.
  • Collaborate with, be mentored by, and mentor a group of technical piers across discovery.

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)

BS degree: Computer Science, Computer/Systems Engineering, or similar work experience.

  • 3 years LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
  • 3 years PL/SQL or relevant back-end development.
  • Integrated software design & development.
  • Team player across a diverse set of groups.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to Pivot & Shift in an ever-evolving environment.
  • Capable of managing activities in a diverse set of projects and deadlines.
  • Strong desire to learn new skills on the job and implement technology relevant to drug discovery.

Preferred Experience/Skills (Full Stack Developer)

  • Working experience in a scientific data engineering / scientific computing environment.
  • Understands the Compound Management in a pharmaceutical environment.
  • ChemCart application design and/or Oracle Forms.
  • Programming languages: Python, Java, Javascript, R, etc.
  • OS: Windows, Linux, and Mac.
  • Working experience with Sample Management Systems
  • Working experience with Inventory Management Systems
  • Familiarity with KNIME, Spotfire, and/or RStudio Workbench
