Columbia University in the City of New York: Columbia University Irving Medical Center: Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons: Pathology Location 02 Open Date Dec 08, 2023 Salary Range or Pay Grade $58,710-$60,000 Description The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly qualified Staff Associate I who will perform a research support role for the following: they will help to manage the mouse colony, which will involve setting up breeding pairs, weaning pups and performing genotyping on mice and the associated record keeping that entails. They will perform basic tissue culture in a support role - changing media.They will perform immunohistochemistry on both cell cultures and on tissue sections and will also set up imaging sessions on a confocal microscope. Provided the aformentioned tasks are accomplished, the individual will have the opportunity to lead a research project of their own, which they can present in group meeting and at conferences. Lab Mission/Purpose: The Au lab is a developmental neurobiology lab that focuses on the inhibitory neurons of the neocortex: cortical interneurons. We are interested in the developmental process of cortical circuit assembly and how defects in this process may lead to neuropsychiatric illness. We use a broad array of approaches to address this question including, stem cell directed differentiation, in utero transplantation, primary culture, mouse genetics and image-based machine learning. Minimum Skills Required: Prior experience working in a wet bench lab and prior lab management responsibilities. Preferred Qualifications: Prior wetbench experience.
