LMI seeks a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Systems Engineer to support a federal program management office in the National Capital Region (Washington, D.C.). Responsibilities

The SME Systems Engineer will provide subject matter expert-level support to assist the Systems Engineering Division (SED) and Chief Engineer in planning and executing systems engineering tasks throughout the acquisition and systems engineering life cycles for selected acquisition programs and offices across Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

    Support the Chief Engineer for technical reviews and engineer analysis on CBP acquisition programs & projects, assessing technical maturity and quality of CBP non-IT program/project system engineering products.
  • Provide support to the Chief Engineer through coordination with Systems Engineering Division (SED) and liaison with appropriate DHS/CBP office.
  • Provide draft documentation and recommendations as required and assigned by the Chief Engineer.
  • Apply systems engineering best practices to identify and mitigate risks, shape technical planning and management for various programs, provide insights to stakeholders, and identify systematic issues and recommended solutions.
  • Ensure statutory, regulatory, and higher-level policy requirements are fulfilled by CBP acquisitions through the execution of DHS Directive 102-01.
  • Appropriately apply systems engineering policies and processes to ensure high workmanship standards and compliance with DHS and CBP systems engineering standards and procedures.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a BS degree in engineering, physics, or mathematics and 10+ years of related experience with demonstrated experience as an industry leader.
  • Strong leadership and team-building strengths.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale DoD projects and risk management processes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience across all phases of the DHS Systems Engineering Life Cycle (SELC).
  • Demonstrated experience with DHS 102- 01- 001, Appendix B and the CBP Program Life Cycle Process Guide.
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches, methodologies, and tools.
  • Experience with systems modeling languages such as SysML, UML, UPDM, UAF, and others.
  • Excellent consulting, written, and verbal communication skills to support and manage customers and clients.
  • Self-directed, detail oriented, and able to coordinate and work with a dynamic team and multiple stakeholders.
  • Active or ability to pass U.S. Customs and Border Protection background investigation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CBP enterprise, mission areas, acquisition programs and projects.
  • Knowledge of sensor performance and integration, communications, and information system security disciplines.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

Clearance:

Ability to pass a government background investigation, including financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, prohibited substance abuse, and employment verifications; active U.S. Customs and Border Protection background investigation preferred. Please note that only U.S. citizens are eligible for a suitability determination.

The salary range displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is not a guarantee of compensation. Individual salaries are determined by various factors including, but not limited to location, internal equity, business considerations, client contract requirements, and candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, skills, and security clearances.

The salary range for this position is -$138,000-$244,000
