Job Summary:



The University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM), Department of Pediatrics, Section of Infectious Diseases and epidemiology seeks a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty member (MD, DO, MD/PhD or equivalent) at Assistant Professor rank to expand the Department's cadre of physicians with expertise in infectious diseases providing care at the Children's Hospital Colorado based primarily at the Anschutz Medical Campus. The faculty member will participate in coverage of the ID inpatient and outpatient consult service, and in medical education for fellows, residents, and medical students. The role will focus on care of patients with immunocompromise, solid and hematologic transplants, antimicrobial stewardship, together with involvement in general ID care. The role will participate in efforts to enhance antimicrobial stewardship through development and dissemination of stewardship mobile applications used by providers through Colorado. The role is primarily clinical effort with opportunities to participate in quality improvement work and to seek funded research opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Serve as Infectious Diseases Attending providing independent care for patients on an inpatient and outpatient basis, and document as needed.
  • Share weekend and night call responsibilities for the Infectious Diseases service.
  • Shared holiday ID coverage and yearly national Vail ID meeting coverage (sponsored by the ID Section) and coverage for national ID conferences will be assigned on a rotational basis.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary care with other hospital and outpatient services
  • Supervise and educate various levels of learners and advanced practice providers
  • Teach in the fellowship and residency programs. This includes bedside and didactic teaching.
  • Develop and conduct quality improvement and research aligned with your interests and section such as optimizing infectious disease care and antimicrobial use among patients with immunocompromise and development of a mobile application designed to improve use of antimicrobials.
  • Collaborate with ID faculty research and seek ongoing sponsored project support for continued research activities.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • MD or DO; must be board certified/eligible in Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Pediatrics. Must achieve board certification in Pediatric Infectious Diseases within two (2) years of completing fellowship. Continuous Maintenance of Certification is required.
  • Active Colorado state license and DEA certification, or ability to apply.
  • Completed certified fellowship training program in Pediatric Infectious Diseases by the time of hire.


Condition of Employment:



  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in antimicrobial handshake stewardship practice
  • Prior participation in intensive quality improvement skills development program
  • Experience collecting and analyzing antimicrobial prescribing data to generate evidence-based practice recommendations
  • Experience with implementation and dissemination of mobile applications supporting antimicrobial stewardship


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Advanced knowledge of antimicrobials and their use
  • Ability to integrate infectious disease care principals with the particular characteristics of patients with immunocompromise and work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Able to work well with all provider styles and types
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build rapport with referring providers
  • High customer service skills, team-based patient care, and ability to meet productivity targets are expected
  • The applicant should be able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Advance Practice Providers
  • Ability to be well-organized and efficient in their work and be able to prioritize patient and system needs appropriately.
  • Strong analytic and writing skills
  • Meet all Children's Hospital Colorado credentialing requirements and continuous active medical staff status
  • Knowledge of antimicrobial stewardship practices in hospital facilities across Colorado

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$163,645
