This is a Contract position- end date is one year from start date

Under direct supervision, acquires skills and knowledge of professional concepts in quality analysis and / or improvement (QI) to assist on small projects or segments of projects.

The QI Analyst will provide quantitative and qualitative programmatic and data analysis support to the clinical enterprises of the Children's Health Center (CHC). The majority of the data-focused work will involve the production of reports that will support the on-going assessment of clinical services delivered through CHC, the creation of data dashboards for providers and staff at CHC, and data analysis to support the educational mission of CHC. The position reports directly to the CHC Medical Director, and also reports to and works closely with the Associate Medical Directors, Practice Manager and Nurse Manager.

The QI Analyst must be able to carry out multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while maintaining critical attention to detail. It is imperative that this position diplomatically communicate between multiple parties to achieve the desired results and meet deadlines.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $61,200 - $130,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Pediatrics at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) operates under the umbrella of UCSF School of Medicine and Dept of Pediatrics. The mission of Department of Pediatrics is to provide quality health care and trauma services with compassion and respect to children, adolescents, and their families, to educate students, residents, and other trainees to provide outstanding care to underserved patients, and to serve as leaders and advocates for children and families, pediatricians, and trainees. Pediatrics has a large teaching, research and clinical set of programs and activities based at ZSFG, where this position is based.

The Children's Health Center (CHC) is the largest clinical enterprise within the Department of Pediatrics, delivering comprehensive outpatient services for children, adolescents, and young adults, including primary care, urgent care, and specialty care services in conjunction with UCSF physicians. As the primary care medical home for more than 7000 patients, staffed by over 50 providers, it is
one of the largest and most complex primary care clinics in the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) network, and serves as one of the leading training and educational sites for UCSF Pediatric residents.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or other healthcare profession, or a combination of comparable clinical education and / or experience
  • Basic knowledge of QI standards, clinical chart review and abstraction, and regulatory requirements
  • Basic knowledge of QI models, tools, and techniques, including collection, aggregation, abstraction, analysis, and reporting of data
  • Detail oriented, with organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently
  • Acquiring problem solving skills to assess problems quickly and propose options for effective and timely resolution
  • Basic interpersonal skills for collaborating effectively with clinical and technical staff
  • Basic ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, and the ability to contribute to clear and concise reports, presentations, and documentation
  • Basic knowledge of various administrative and business software packages
  • Ability to operate effectively in a changing organizational and technological environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to produce reports, presentations and documentation
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Access, and software tools for organization, scheduling, correspondence, data collection, analysis, and reporting

Preferred Qualifications


  • Working knowledge of specialized applications for clinical information systems and quality data management, such as i2i registry software, the Lifetime Clinical Record (LCR), and other SFDPH clinical data systems
  • Leadership experience
  • One year of experience working with underserved and/or community based programs and a proven track record of working well with diverse populations in a collaborative role
