STE - Fire Instructor (TRAINER 3)

The University of California, Davis Fire Department (UCDFD) is seeking a dedicated Contract Paramedic Skills Instructor to support its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education programs, including the Paramedic and EMT Programs, as well as other EMS offerings such as CPR and Stop the Bleed training.
The Contract Paramedic Skills Instructor plays a vital role in delivering high-quality EMS education. Primary responsibilities include providing hands-on skills instruction for the Paramedic Program, with opportunities to assist in EMT courses, CPR classes, and Stop the Bleed training. The Paramedic Skills Instructor collaborates with the Program Director, Lead Instructors, and other Trainers to deliver effective instruction, evaluate student performance, and ensure program objectives are met. Additional duties include managing logistics and completing tasks assigned by the EMS Division.
This is a variable-hour, hourly contract position that requires flexibility, as weekly hours will fluctuate based on program needs. The position is limited to 0.43 FTE or a maximum of 894 hours annually.
Schedule:
*Paramedic Skills Labs: Fridays, 0800-1800, with potential opportunities for additional skills days or practice hours. Skills lab days may shift to weekends in the future to meet program needs.
*EMT Skills Labs:
Fridays and Saturdays, 0730-1630, during the Summer Quarter.
Saturdays and Sundays, 0730-1630, during the Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters starting Fall 2025.
*Additional Flexibility: Support for CPR and Stop the Bleed classes on other weekdays as needed.
The Paramedic Skills Instructor must be available for assigned days and times, including weekends, to accommodate program demands.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• Current California certification or licensure as an EMT-Paramedic, Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), or Medical Doctor (MD) is required.
• Minimum of three years of experience in medical or allied health education, training, and practice, with a solid foundation in EMS.

• Demonstrated experience in professional team leadership and management with excellent verbal, written, and non-verbal communication skills. Proficiency in computer use, including software for presentations, file management, documentation, and comprehensive reporting, is required.
• Ability to deliver hands-on skills instruction effectively in classroom environments, assess student learning and performance, and facilitate successful student outcomes aligned with program objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

• National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) Instructor I certification or completion of forty (40) hours of documented teaching methodology instruction, including methods, materials, and evaluation of instruction. Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theories, competency-based education principles, and effective facilitation techniques.
• Ability to adapt to changing program needs in a positive, professional, and productive manner. Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment that meets the needs of diverse student populations and healthcare settings.
• Skill to perform logistical needs such as inventory, clean, and restock EMS equipment and gear bags needed for EMS classes.
• Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.

The Contract Paramedic Skills Instructor supports the EMS Division in delivering pre-hospital care education, focusing primarily on the Paramedic Program. They play a key role in providing hands-on skills training and have opportunities to assist in other BLS classes, including EMT, CPR, and Stop the Bleed.

Must be able to present effectively in front of groups and work in distracting environments, including hospital departments and classrooms. Must possess stamina, strength, agility, power, flexibility, coordination, and balance to perform training and instructional duties. A valid California Driver's License is required. Work schedules will vary and may include nights, weekends, and variable hours to support instruction, clinical site visits, and other classes held outside of standard business hours. The incumbent is responsible for adhering to all safety guidelines, protocols, and processes while performing job duties in various environments, including classrooms, outdoors, and other settings typical in Emergency Medical Services.
