Overview

This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following location: NC

This position's responsibilities include daily production support for the Oracle, SQL Server, Netezza, and DB2 database infrastructure. These database platforms are maintained on Windows/Linux (SQL Server), Linux (Oracle and Netezza) and AIX (DB2). Databases are virtualized using VMWare. Environment is 24x7 with over 5000 databases.


Responsibilities

This position is also responsible for maintaining and managing the standards, documentation, backup and recovery, design and implementation of the physical data storage, virtualization of databases, maintenance, patching, installation, capacity planning, access, security administration (vulnerability assessment and protection of data), performance and availability, data integrity and troubleshooting of all assigned databases.


Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience in Database Engineering OR High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Database Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced understanding of DB2 or Netezza with some practical experience using either in a production environment.

  • Possess strong solid database architectural design skills
  • Preference to those individuals with experienced in managing DB2 and Netezza with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience using both in a production environment.
  • Application DBA experience in building out databases, DDL definition, scripting, data modeling
  • Exceptional skill with proven track record of designing and implementing highly available database solutions
  • Exceptional ability to troubleshoot and solve database related technology issues
  • Solid understanding of database replication technologies
  • Preference to those individuals with an active and ever evolving interest in emerging database technologies with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges in support of company initiatives, ie, Snowflake, Teradata, S3, Hadoop, MongoDB, etc.

Additional requirements as defined by management based on need and position (not all may apply):

  • Possess strong technical abilities, quick study of new technology via on-the-job training, the intellect to resolve complex problems logically and methodically, and good judgment to involve and communicate with vendors, senior level technicians, and management.
  • Possess strong knowledge of Oracle 11g+ in a Linux environment.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Spotlight for Oracle and DB2.
  • Possess strong experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), including setup and configuration as well as Microsoft SQL Server Central Management Server (CMS).
  • Possess strong experience with SQL Server Management Studio / SSAS / SSRS / SSIS / SQL Agent / SQL Engine, including setup and configuration.
  • Possess ability to interact with project management teams in order to deliver on project estimates and required database deployments for new applications and system upgrades.
  • Possess experience with virtualization of database platforms and environments using VMWare, with particular focus on tuning and diagnostics.
  • Possess a working knowledge and use of Oracle RMAN and COMMVAULT for backup and recovery.
  • Possess strong knowledge of SQL Server (all relevant and supported version) running on a Windows OS platform.
  • Possess working understanding of DB*Visualizer.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Idera Diagnostic Manager, DPA, and Solarwinds.
  • Provide oversight, mentoring and leadership to less experienced staff.
  • Provide on-call support for production environment, conduct root cause analysis for issues.
  • Provide proactive monitoring of the database instances and take preventive steps to ensure high availability and optimal performance.
  • Have the willingness to support all database technology stacks in use by the bank in addition to those core technologies mentioned in basic qualifications
  • Have the ability to assist development teams with development, testing, tuning and implementation of database applications.
  • Have a familiarity with replication tools, particularly Qlik Replicate / Transform.
  • Have experience administering and supporting Microsoft Power BI Server and MS PBI report development.
  • Have a strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and deliver on project and commitments in a timely fashion.
  • Have the ability to be on call 24 x 7 and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Have the ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment and effectively communicate both orally and in writing with peers and customers.
  • Experience with UNIX based scripting languages (KORN) and process automation.
  • Experience with Windows based scripting languages (PERL, PowerShell) process automation.
  • Experience and strong understanding of SQL syntax, T-SQL, O-SQL, SQL*Plus.
  • Experience with setting up and maintaining an enterprise disaster recovery environment, using tools such as SQL Server Mirroring, SQL Server Always On, SQL Server Log Shipping, and Oracle Data Guard.

Other qualifications:

  • Experience with Quest TOAD.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Experience with HP ALM and automated testing processes.
  • Experience with Aginity Workbench for Netezza.
  • Experience with Idera products Admin Toolkit.
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services, Analysis Services, Integration Services.
  • Experience with Service Manager / Service NOW with practical utilization of ITIL.
  • Achieved certifications in Oracle, DB2, Netezza, ITIL, and SQL Server.
  • Possess strong banking/financial services industry experience with focus on supporting banking technology applications such as IVR, Wires, Digital Banking, Fraud and Risk Detection, Loan Operations, Deposit Operations, Sales and Service, Call Center, etc.
