Job Purpose

National Grid is looking for a Trader who will complement the Long-Term Clean Energy Supply team to perform analyses to meet the service needs of the customer and financial and business objectives of National Grid. In this role you will contribute to the planning, contracting and procurement process to meet National Grid's statutory requirements in Massachusetts to enter into cost-effective long-term contracts for clean energy, including Offshore Wind and Energy Storage.

Key Accountabilities

* Supports analyzing the results of requests for proposals and procurement of renewable and clean energy, including offshore wind and energy storage, under the guidance of a senior, lead or manager. This includes reviewing power dispatch modelling results, environmental mitigation plans, economic benefit analyses, and diversity, equity and inclusion plans included in bid proposals

* Supports the planning, developing and completion of economic, financial and technical studies as required for various proposals and opportunities presented to Long-Term Clean Energy Supply

* Research renewable and clean energy markets and developing technologies, including offshore wind, large hydroelectric power, and emerging energy storage technologies

* Work collaboratively and develop relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external (example: state agencies, outside consultants, other utilities) in order to fully explain and support the implementation of National Grid policies and processes

* Monitor and/or assess working practices to ensure they are compliant with legislation and governance

* Test and challenge existing procurement, scheduling and trading procedures and highlight areas for improvement in order to ensure they are robust

* Plan and contract for the Company's four local electric distribution utilities, ensuring contracts for the electricity and capacity necessary to provide adequate and reliable electric supply are executed and managed consistent with the goals of the Company and state laws and regulators

* Provide analytical insight into the supply portfolios across jurisdictions

* Support regulatory filings related to power supply and renewable standards

* Prepare accurate and timely reporting of data for internal and external stakeholders

* Ensure all energy planning and procurement activities comply with corporate and industry standards for risk management

* Develop and utilize peer group network in order to absorb and apply technical and professional best practice within own area of specialism in order to drive customer and shareholder value

* Draw up requirement specifications, conduct feasibility studies and produce high level business models to support senior management in defining renewable/electric procurement strategies to ensure least cost, reliable electric supply

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering, Finance, Math, Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science or other analytical discipline is required, advanced degree preferred

* 1+ years' working or cooperative working experience, preferably in the utility industry, government/policy, energy storage industry or wholesale markets preferred

* Strong analytical skills in Microsoft Excel required

* Strong research skills and thirst for knowledge

* Energetic and ability to multi-task

* Experience in quantitative and/or wholesale market modeling preferred

* Knowledge of Energy Storage Systems preferred

* Experience of managing complex projects independently

* Knowledge of Massachusetts clean energy legislation

* Understanding of project management techniques and methods

* Ability to bring creative and innovative approaches to the business

* Exhibit high personal standards of commitment, integrity, and reliability

* Ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers and regulators

* Demonstrates the ability to network internally and externally and to develop successful, long lasting business relationships with others and seeks to understand and challenge business scenarios to the benefit of all parties

Salary

$102,000 - $120,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
