DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a PUC Public Policy Intern, you will have the opportunity to research exciting trends in the public utility industry, learn from experts in the field, and see first-hand the decision-making processes of the agency that oversees gas, electric, water, telecommunications, broadband, and transportation operations in Pennsylvania. Interns will attend hearings and public meetings and interact with the Commission's vested partners, including consumer advocate groups.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal, Full-time Internship from May 2025 until August 2025.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: This position is headquartered in Harrisburg. Telework is a potential feature of these positions for employees. Successful candidates are required to report to the headquarters worksite daily, unless the employee meets eligibility requirements and telework has been approved. To be eligible to participate in telework, the employee's Alternate (telework) Worksite must meet the following requirements: The telework worksite must be located

1) within a reasonable travel distance of Harrisburg, and

2) within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Management may discontinue any telework arrangement at any time, for any reason. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Current enrollment as a full-time undergraduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared bachelor's degree program and successful completion of at least sixty (60) college credits at the time of hire. Full time undergraduate students who have successfully completed at least thirty (30) college credits and anticipate the completion of at least sixty (60) college credits at the time of hire may apply for this program.
  • Current enrollment as a graduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared master's or doctorate degree program at the time of hire.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 6 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements:

  • Undergraduate juniors and seniors.
  • Students of any major with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Students with majors in political science, public policy, economics, engineering, and pre-law are encouraged to apply.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
