Primary Duties
1. Coordinates and oversees the implementation and administration of required training including OSHA, Federal Motor Carrier, Department of Transportation (as related to employee safety and health) and other applicable safety regulations, such as: Forklift, Smith System, Respiratory Fit Test, Safety Data Sheets and Competent Person/Excavation Training.
2. Stays actively involved in safety team meetings and leadership training of the safety team leaders to continually improve the effectiveness of the Company's safety initiatives for employee and vehicle safety. Supports and develops safety related positions as well as other division personnel to ensure safety objectives are met and to ensure employees have the right resources, knowledge, and personal protective equipment to perform their jobs safely.
3. Stays abreast of trends and developments in all federal, state and local regulations related to public safety and communicates these developments to management and other applicable employees as appropriate.
4. Serves as a safety resource for programs, such as, fire department training and RP1162 Emergency Responder and Contractor Awareness training.
5. Represents the division/department during OSHA and/or other governmental safety inspections and audits.
6. Conducts field safety audits and mock drills for the Company as well as contractor personnel related to equipment maintenance, compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate risk control policies, incident investigations, communications, site inspections and record keeping. Identifies areas for improvement and provides recommendations, coaching and feedback for improving occupational health and safety programs based on these observations.
7. Leads as a culture champion by promoting our vision, strategy, AtmoSpirit principles, and supporting wellness and safety initiatives.
8. Interacts with all levels of management to develop and achieve key strategies and objectives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Business, or Occupational Health or related field and five years of related experience in environmental health and safety.
A general education knowledge normally acquired through a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and seven years of related experience in environmental health and safety; or equivalent Requires a valid driver's license in accordance with Company standards.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, motivate and build consensus with internal and/or external customers in order to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or modifications on technical or other complex concepts to individuals that may have a high degree of knowledge in the field or with individuals that have little or no background in the area under discussion.
NUMERIC SKILLS: Requires the ability to perform analyses involving ratios, percentages and simple statistical methods.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Requires advanced knowledge of various software applications to create complex documents, reports and graphics. Preferred experience with Microsoft Office applications.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA) Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) OSHA Certified Trainer Certification Certified Safety Director (CSD) First Aid and CPR Instructor Certification Smith Driving Instructor Certification Fully competent understanding and demonstrated ability to administer OSHA regulations and compliance directives
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and/or lifting.
WORK CONDITIONS Primary job responsibilities require work both inside and outside an office environment. Overnight travel required.
