Senior Marketing Operations Manager

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Marketing, Journals and Operations, the Senior Marketing Operations professional will take the lead on managing and optimizing the organization's Customer Data Platform (CDP). This role will play a critical part in shaping the data-driven marketing strategies that underpin audience engagement, campaign targeting, and overall marketing effectiveness. The Senior Marketing Operations professional will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of data-driven campaigns, maintain the integrity of marketing data, and implement best practices for campaign optimization, apply today!

Responsibilities:

Data Management & Integration:



  • Collaborate with IT to ensure seamless data flow between the CDP and other systems, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Ensure the CDP complies with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and internal data governance standards.
  • Partner with Data teams to establish a standardized data model for customer profiles.
  • Develop processes and governance around profile attributes and global segments to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Work with vendors to ensure proper web data collection from websites (e.g., events, variables, data layer elements) and maintain front-end styling (CSS) for a visually consistent user experience.


Campaign Execution & Optimization:



  • Develop reusable campaign templates for common campaigns (e.g., triggers, journeys).
  • Build complex automations, predictive models, and lead scoring within the system.
  • Continuously analyze campaign results, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven adjustments.
  • Create and manage workflows for campaign planning, tracking, testing, and optimization.
  • Ensure integration and seamless operation between the CDP and ESP/MAP, optimizing their respective functions.


Team Enablement & Process Development:



  • Educate team members on CDP capabilities, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure efficient and consistent CDP usage.
  • Foster a data-driven culture within the organization by encouraging CDP adoption and empowering informed decision-making.
  • Support marketing teams in developing and executing personalized, data-driven campaigns that engage customers and drive conversions.
  • Communicate updates and changes to stakeholders, providing necessary training and support.


Reporting, Analytics & Insights:



  • Develop and deliver comprehensive reports on audience insights, campaign performance, data health, and KPIs within the CDP.
  • Partner with Data teams to integrate CDP data with BI tools for advanced analytics.
  • Share actionable insights with stakeholders to drive improvements in marketing strategies and business outcomes.


Vendor & Budget Management:




  • Manage relationships with CDP and other MarTech vendors, overseeing contract negotiations, performance evaluations, and budget management.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor support and escalations.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Director to manage the budget for marketing technology investments and operations.


Strategic Planning & Roadmap Management:



  • Develop and manage the CDP and MarTech roadmap, ensuring alignment with overall marketing strategy.
  • Prioritize and track the implementation of use cases and ensure the timely execution of key initiatives.
  • Establish guidelines to balance marketing efforts across channels and product lines to ensure effective and cohesive strategies.



Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Technology, or Data Science or related discipline. An advanced degree in a related field (e.g., MBA or Master's in Marketing Analytics) preferred. Directly applicable experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.




Preferred certifications:




  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CDP, marketing automation, or data privacy certifications).



  • Google Analytics Individual Qualification (GAIQ)



  • Google Ads Certification



  • PMI Operations Certification



  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Specialist Certification




Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in marketing operations.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in marketing technology stacks, customer data platforms, and/or data/analytics platforms.
  • Proven success in marketing operations, with expertise in marketing technology stacks, customer data platforms (CDPs), and data/analytics platforms.
  • Track record of driving operational efficiency and campaign success across multiple channels and product lines.
  • Experience working with organizations that manage large content collections and/or extensive member/user communities.
  • Prior experience with publishers or associations is preferred.
  • Expertise in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Visio) and reporting platforms.
  • Advanced web development skills (CSS, HTML, JavaScript), especially for customizing CDP interfaces or system integrations, are highly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience implementing CDPs such as Lyrics, Hum, BlueConic, Bloomreach, or Treasure Data.
  • Strong proficiency in marketing technologies, including CDPs, email marketing platforms, and marketing automation tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data interpretation and data-driven decision-making.
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and best practices in data management.
  • In-depth knowledge of campaign tracking, attribution, and performance measurement techniques.
  • Strong project management skills, capable of prioritizing and managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Ability to simplify technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized, with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
  • Adaptable and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.


Travel:The Senior Marketing Operations professional is a remote-first role, primarily based from home within the United States, with travel, up to 30%, required for visiting client sites, attending public relation, media and marketing events, occasional in-person consulting, and public relations and media coordination at events, and participating in conferences, meetings, training, and strategy sessions at various locations including APS offices in Hauppauge, NY, College Park, MD, and the Washington DC metro area.

Salary:

The salary range for this position takes into account various factors influencing compensation decisions, such as skill sets, experience, training, and other business and organizational requirements. The salary listed within the specified ranges considers relevant experience. Our compensation philosophy at APS aims to maintain salaries at the midpoint of the market. As a result, we typically hire within the target starting range. Exceptional, rare cases may merit reviews above target starting range for specialized or niche skills aligned with strategic operational goals.

Hiring Range:$72,240/year - $98,427/year (USD)

Target Starting Range:$72,240/year - $80,367/year (USD)

Work Environment:

As noted above, APS offers a "Remote First" workplace. Although our offices are located on Long Island, NY, College Park, MD and Washington DC, you can work from other places in the United States. We are flexible about work hours, but expect responsiveness during the core of the workday, Eastern Time.
