Job Description:

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Battery Electrical System Engineer to join our High Voltage Battery System Design & Development Team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the design, development, and validation of electrical systems for high-voltage battery systems used in electric and hybrid vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Electrical Hardware Design:

    • Collaborate with BMS hardware supplier to design, develop, and optimize electrical components for battery systems, including Master Control Unit (MCU), Cell Monitor Circuit (CMC), power distribution, contactors, fuses, current sensors, connectors, and wire harnesses.
    • Evaluate component selections, such as capacitors, resistors, relays, current sensors, and connectors against system performance to ensure the components or sub-systems are robust enough to support system maximum performance.
    • Ensure that all hardware designs comply with relevant high-voltage safety standards and automotive regulations.
    • Develop safety-critical hardware features, such as isolation monitoring and fault detection.
    • Conduct performance and reliability evaluations for components under varying environmental conditions, such as thermal, and insulation performance.

  2. Technical Documentation:

    • Create electrical system diagrams, schematics, and harness drawings to interpret high and low-voltage systems
    • Collaborate with software and mechanical teams to develop system and sub-system technical requirements and specifications
    • Collaborate with software and mechanical teams to develop DFMEA
    • Prepare detailed design documentation, including schematics, PCB layouts, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
    • Maintain documentation for test results, validation reports, and design reviews.
    • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to the internal team or suppliers to ensure hardware functions are achieved.

  3. Project Management:

    • Act as a project manager, hosting weekly meetings with internal teams and suppliers
    • Work with suppliers to meet design requirements, project timing and achieve cost targets.
    • Work with suppliers and manufacturing teams to fabricate prototypes and conduct validation tests.
    • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis to solve development and quality issues
    • Lead design gate review and program milestone review
    • Lead cost and performance optimization in product development

  4. System Validation and Testing:

    • Develop and execute validation plans for high-voltage battery hardware, including electrical stress tests, thermal performance, isolation, and vibration testing.
    • Analyze test data to validate the performance and reliability of hardware designs.

  5. System integration:

    • Collaborate with mechanical team, software team, and suppliers to ensure the seamless integration of hardware components into high-voltage battery systems.
    • Troubleshoot high-voltage battery systems and vehicles by using lab and measurement equipment, such as power suppliers, oscilloscopes, Vector CANoe, or CANalyzer and provide technical feedback to the internal team or suppliers
