Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position in the United States can be found in the JOB INFO section below. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Join Our Team as an Associate Project Engineer!

Are you passionate about Tool and Mold Design? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Product Engineering department. As an Associate Project Engineer, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

The Polymer Products operations at S&C is a world leader for manufacturing medium voltage epoxy insulation products. The engineering team at Polymer Products supports operations team to achieve the yield goals through process controls, mold designs, and trainings; seeks continuous improvement with manufacturing processes, mold designs, tools, and equipment through improvement and capital projects; addresses and resolves quality concerns observed with manufactured products through problem-solving activities; and supports new product/process development through design, procurement, installation, and startup.

The candidate considered for this position will work on-site at S&C Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois supporting the Polymer Products process engineering team and report to the Assistant Manager-Manufacturing Engineering.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide high quality engineering support to the operations team towards achieving the target yield and scrap goals by identifying and resolving operations issues.
  • Improve operational efficiency and reliability through continuous improvement of processes, tools/equipment, manufactured products, and automation.
  • Design and create drawings and models for new tooling/fixture/mechanical systems or improvements to the existing tooling/fixture/mechanical systems according to manufacturing needs using a 3D CAD modelling software.
  • Write detailed specifications for the tooling/process design sought for effective translation during request for quote, procurement, build, installation, and start up
  • Effectively plan, coordinate, and supervise tooling/process equipment installation and startup.
  • Conduct experiments, collect and analyze process data using statistical tools, write clear, concise engineering test reports describing the test procedures, results, analyses, and conclusions.
  • Create instruction bulletins or process specification procedures for standard work practices related to manufacturing tooling/processes.
  • Occasionally, provide support to the maintenance team in troubleshooting process, tool, and equipment problems.
  • Occasionally, collaborate with research and development team on new product development efforts and needs.
  • Occasionally, qualify new tooling/process for manufacturing by performing dimensional analysis on the manufactured product.
  • Occasionally, visit tooling/equipment suppliers to test tooling/equipment during Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Occasionally, run computer simulations for thermal analysis of tooling and product during injection molding process.
  • Support and mentor fellow team members in the candidate's area of expertise.

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

  • BS degree from an accredited university majoring in Mechanical Engineering or a related major.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing environment involving processes and tools.
  • Strong drafting skills with experience in 3D CAD modeling (SolidEdge preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organization and presentation skills, including ability to map out projects, prioritize workloads and maintain documentation.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work with people in a production/plant environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of PC using Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and Access.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Standing: Occasional standing on production floor for troubleshooting or equipment startup.
  • Lifting: Occasional lifting of production parts and tooling less than 50 pounds.
  • Walking: Frequent walking throughout the facility both indoors and outdoors.
  • Carrying: Occasional carrying of light objects such as measuring equipment, prints, etc.
  • Pushing: Infrequent pushing of objects, possibly related to production support, startup work.
  • Pulling: Infrequent pulling of objects, possibly related to production support, startup work.
  • Bending: Occasional bending during production support, startup work.
  • Reaching: Infrequent reaching.
  • Handling: Occasional handling of parts or tools, and hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
  • Other: Frequent use of personal computer, keyboard, and monitor.
