As Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs, you will manage a team of regulatory professionals and provide strategic leadership to our business partners. This position supports UnitedHealthcare's position as a thought leader on active and emerging regulatory affairs issues at the state and federal levels. The Associate Director of National Regulatory Affairs will oversee tracking of regulatory issues, relationships, and outreach to federal agencies to share information. This role will interact with staff from Regulatory Affairs, Compliance, Legal, External Affairs, and business teams across the Organization to ensure a coordinated approach. The Associate Director of National Regulatory Affairs also assists business partners with advocacy writing and preparing senior leaders for external meetings.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Supports development of existing and new tracking capabilities related to state and federal legislation and regulations
  • Produces and supports communications of new, existing, and final state and federal legislation and regulations
  • Refines written work products to ensure that they are accurate, high quality, and written in a consistent voice
  • Assists business partners with drafting documents related to proposed regulatory changes, clarifications sought regarding regulatory guidance, and business goals
  • Supports the National Regulatory Affairs team in developing and executing regulatory advocacy priorities across the business
  • Collaborates with business, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, and External Affairs colleagues to review, analyze, and develop/oversee project plans to support implementation of advocacy strategies
  • Maintains awareness of current and emerging trends/changes in the regulatory environment

Required Qualifications:



  • 5+ years of experience in a health care and/or managed care in a regulatory environment in a compliance, regulatory or legal capacity
  • Experience in a position where solid oral and written communication skills were required
  • Project management experience, including experience simultaneously managing multiple projects
  • Proficient in data management through Excel, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Demonstrated persuasive and factual writing with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail for internal and external audiences

  • Proven highly collaborative individual with ability to influence others and build solid professional relationships
  • Demonstrated well-developed organizational skills with the ability to be resourceful, solutions-focused, and anticipate and overcome obstacles
  • Proven excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills across internal business groups, Compliance and Legal professionals, and with external regulators
  • Proven ability to effectively understand and communicate detailed and complex information

The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
