The Role

The main responsibility of the Construction Technician position is fiber splicing within a new construction environment. This will include installation, splicing, and testing of all fiber optic and copper cable within multiple program networks. There will be limited repair work that will apply to the new construction installation.

Location and Hours

You must reside close to the Ocala and/or Winter Garden FL areas.

The work shift is Monday - Friday 6:00AM - 2:30PM. There will be limited instances of scheduled work with advanced notice outside of these hours.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Install, splice, and test fiber as directed for Projects, Operations, and Maintenance related activities andresponding to emergency events. This position is not responsible for repair work and maintenance of existingfiber lines.
  • Perform dark fiber, and reel testing
  • Perform routine repair of fiber to an aggregation point, providing continuity for the entire fiber route
What We Look For in a Candidate

Required Experience and Work Environment

  • Working outside in all weather conditions
  • Working within confined spaces and underground
  • Experience pulling trailers. Company vehicles have trailers to be transported to the individual sites.

Additional Requirements

  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic test and installation equipment.
  • Dealing with multiple agencies and personnel to assist with installation and permitting processes
  • Good physical condition - capable of standing all day and walking several miles to engineer cable routes in
  • remote locations or to follow construction equipment and crews while filling in for an inspector
  • Able to work on drawings and spreadsheets for extended periods
  • Able to work overtime and travel, when necessary

Preferred Experience:

  • Fiber splicing experience (ribbon and/or loose tube) including color coding
  • Experience with Fujikura / Sumitoma machines

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree or vocational education in a related area or equivalent experience
  • Two or more years of applicable work experience
Compensation

Minimum Hourly Wage $13.88
Maximum Hourly Wage $34.11
