The specialist provides guidance and support in establishing the clinical direction for the market in collaboration with senior management. They are specifically trained and educated to independently provide and/or supervise the provision of comprehensive specialty care. This includes patient assessment, formulation and implementation of a treatment plan, follow-up and practice management. The specialist possesses a blend of clinical and technical skills. They collaborate with colleagues and members of the rehabilitation team and referral network to treat or facilitate the treatment of patients while also working to drive a specialist strategy within their assigned market.

The specialist participates directly in patient care within the full scope of their license, consults with practitioners and referral partners throughout the market on clinical matters, conducts training programs and workshops and other related tasks. As part of the market leadership team, the market specialist will also participate as necessary to ensure the market is meeting its clinical and business goals. They will assist in the evaluation of new technologies in specialist area, champion new products, operationalize "clinical excellence" in specialty area, and serve as a markets subject matter expert. The specialist relies upon extensive experience and expertise to accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.



Your Impact

    Provides the highest level of specialty area patient care either directly or indirectly via web services.
  • Develops a strategy to grow specialty area in assigned markets, working with area and regional leadership.
  • Participate in Patient Evaluation Clinics in support of the market patient care centers.
  • Responsible for the development and training of Market Specialists.
  • Ensures specialty area care providers within their market are properly developed and trained to provide the highest standard of care in specialty area.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of educational programs for clinicians, such as the Hanger Education Fair and other specialty area initiatives.
  • Develop and conduct workshops for external medical professionals to further enhance the clinical knowledge of the O&P profession amongst the medical community.
  • Lead or support clinical teams in the evaluation of new products/clinical initiatives.


Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. /B.A. in business, healthcare, or related discipline, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's Degree in same preferred.
  • American Board Certified (ABC) certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics.
  • Licensed per state regulations where providing care.
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver's license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.

  • Extensive clinical expertise, including a preference for candidates with 7 or more years of experience in their clinical specialty.
  • Clinical excellence - must be respected within the industry and in the Hanger Clinic field organization as an expert in specialty area.

  • Organizational skills - Must be able to track and manage several initiatives across the organization simultaneously.
  • Presence - Must be able to interface on a regional scale with media, trade associations, patient advocates, manufacturers, payers, etc.
  • Management - Expertise directly or indirectly managing people resources, including demonstrated ability to comprehend and act upon relevant metrics to achieve financial and productivity targets.
  • Effective communication skills for accurate, concise and organized oral and written presentation.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel.
  • Ability to assess patient condition and advise physician on treatment options.
  • Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build professional relationships with physicians, therapists and patients.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Experience and understanding of marketing and sales in the health care services arena.
  • Possess active listening, reading and comprehension skills for analyzing reports, charts and correspondence.
  • Demonstrate high level of integrity and ethics.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and ability to problem solve.
