GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Program Evaluation Intern will use their knowledge of microbiology and a risk-based approach to help refine the current environmental monitoring program for the Cooler facility. In addition, the intern will review and evaluate standard operating procedures and sanitation practices, including the equipment commissioning program.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS / DUTIES OF THE POSITION

  • Collect environmental samples for pathogens and ATP
  • Utilize laboratory software to analyze sample results
  • Analyze historic data to identify trends and make recommendations on best practices
  • Data entry and database management
  • Create and deliver a final presentation to the executive team of Dole Fresh Vegetables
  • Other duties as assigned


INTERNSHIP DETAILS

  • Summer 2025, 12-week internship
  • 100% onsite (not a remote internship)
  • Pay Rate: $20 - $22 per hour
  • No relocation or housing assistance provided

Required Skills
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Basic knowledge of Microbiology
  • Basic Statistical Analysis skills
  • Intermediate Excel and Word skills
  • Critical Thinking, Problem-solving and Risk-based decision-making skills
  • Strong written and verbal Communication skills
  • Valid California driver's license and use of reliable personal transportation


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.
  • Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs, lift up to 25 pounds, identify and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to work in the refrigerated Cooler for short periods of time to collect samples.


WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Full time, 40-hour workweek
  • No overtime expected
  • Travel to and from various Dole facilities in Marina, CA and the Salinas Valley

Required Experience
EDUCATION LEVEL AND FIELDS OF STUDY

  • Fall 2025 rising junior or senior obtaining a bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Data Analysis, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related degree.
