Columbia University in the City of New York: The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science: Mechanical Engineering Location 01 Open Date Oct 09, 2024 Salary Range or Pay Grade $110,000-$163,000 Description The Department of Mechanical Engineering welcomes applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (without tenure, but on tenure-track) rank in the field of robotics and autonomous systems. Areas of emphasis include, but are not limited to, learning and control systems, particularly the intersection of analytical and data-driven modeling, innovative mechanism design, smart materials, and future autonomous systems. Robotics systems of interest range from humanoids and legged robots to drones and vehicles, as well as general automation, locomotion, and manipulation across various application areas. Candidates are additionally encouraged to consider the intersection of their proposed areas of research with departmental- and school-wide initiatives relating to energy and sustainability, biomechanics, nano/micro technology, engineering and medicine, and artificial intelligence. Qualifications Candidates must have a Ph.D. or its professional equivalent by the starting date of the appointment. Applicants for this position must demonstrate the potential to do pioneering research and to teach effectively. The Department is especially interested in candidates who will contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the excellence and diversity of the academic community.
