The Campus Reach Neurodiversity Internship Program is designed for neurodivergent individuals with autism. This tailored program will provide valuable work experience, career coaching, and mentorship. From the time an application is submitted to the end of the summer internship, students will be supported to showcase and grow their strengths, abilities, and potential fully.

Who should apply? We welcome applications from college students on the autism spectrum and are interested in developing their technology skills in a supportive, growth-oriented internship environment.

As an Intern, you can expect to:

  • Join Southwest as a Summer 2025 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 20th to August 8th, 2025.

  • Work fully remote, with opportunities to connect with your Team and other workgroups virtually and potential to travel to visit our Corporate Campus in Dallas, Texas.

  • There is limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their workoff-site. Those ineligible locations are Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota,Vermont, West Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.

  • If you currently reside in an ineligible state, you may relocate to an eligible state and be considered for an internship

  • Dedicate 40 hours each week to your internship responsibilities and tasks.

  • Receive hourly pay of $31 and receive a one-time $2,000 stipend (Paid $1,000 on first paycheck and $1,000 at midpoint of internship)

  • Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel).

  • A Job Coach will be available as a resource to support you during the interview process, as well as throughout the internship.

  • Interns will be provided any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship.

The Intern will work full-time as a System Engineer Intern within the Technology Department. The Intern may be asked to support a variety of projects within one or more of the following Teams:

Infrastructure

  • Infrastructure Testing Tool Team: The Quality Operations Team keeps all the software testing tools operational and available for the QMO. These tools are used to stress test and find vulnerabilities in all out applications before being deployed to end users. The QMO writes software to break other software to help make it more resilient and reliable for our end users.

  • Infrastructure Website Testing Team: The infrastructure Intern will be supporting the testing Team for Southwest.com website for all platforms i.e. Desktop and Mobile.You will enjoy getting the opportunity to work on Southwest.com including migrating it AWS and working to set up our automation in Gitlab.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the System Engineer Intern may include but are not limited to:

  • Under supervision, may be responsible for vendor management, partner governance, and oversight to deploy systems which are complete, designed and managed over life cycles.

  • Work with a Team to research problems, plan solutions, recommend software and systems, and coordinate developments in an orderly manner to meet business requirements. Including but not limited to monitoring and testing performance and capacity for potential bottlenecks, identifying possible solutions, and working with partners to implement fixes.

  • Responsible for ensuring the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability and resolving escalations of simple to medium complexity.

  • Assist in the implementation and updates to the platform strategy and road map.

  • Maintain awareness of technology trends in area of responsibility.

  • Meet commitments and deliverables related to participating in projects.

  • Supporting test automation script templates and answering and sorting support tickets for the Team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

  • You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process

  • This position requires authorization to work in the United States as a permanent employee without sponsorship now or in the future

Education:

  • Progress toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or Information Technology, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Business or related degree required.

  • Progress towards a 4-year undergraduate degree preferred

  • To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time or part-time student (minimum of 6 hours) as defined by your university at the time of application and during the internship

  • At least one semester remaining at the time the internship ends is preferred

  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application

Knowledge, Skills, Work Style & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of development methodologies, practices, concepts, technologies and technical options required.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.

  • Previous internship, work experience, or project work in a classroom environment as a Software Engineer, Developer, or Architect within the past 12 months preferred.

  • Involvement in Systems Engineering or Software Development clubs a plus.

  • Project management skills, including principles, timelines, and budgets, are a plus.

  • Exposure to Agile methodologies preferred.

  • Classroom and/or industry experience using Object Oriented Programming (Java) preferred.

  • Classroom and/or industry experience using AWS specific for DevOps are preferred.

  • Classroom and/or industry experience using Selenium, UFT, GitLag, Jenkins, Jira, Appium, See Test, & TestNG are preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of software development methodologies is preferred.

  • Understanding of Quality Assurance is preferred.

  • Ability to review, analyze, and present data.

  • Ability to partner, communicate, and negotiate with various Teams and/or external partners.

  • Ability to analyze small to medium technical problems, articulating the problem or root cause, and translating the analysis into viable solution recommendations.

  • Ability to research, create, and document test scenarios and test cases.

  • Ability to take on multiple assignments, whether administrative or project-related, while maintaining a successful level of completion in all responsible work.

Time Commitment and Pay:

  • Required: Full-time 40hrs a week

  • Must maintain a consistent weekly schedule during normal business hours at a max of 8hrs per day. If selected, you'll work with your Leader to determine your work schedule.

  • Program Dates: May 20 - August 8, 2025
