Why this job matters:

The Medicare Policy Intern is responsible for monitoring and evaluating policy changes in state and federal policies that affect the organization's Medicare Advantage line of business. Collaboration across internal business area owners will be needed to learn about current workflows and strategies, to evaluate what may need to be adjusted to comply with policy changes. Independent navigation and review of state and federal regulations, laws and sub-regulatory guidance documents will be needed regularly.

What you will do:


  • Research, analyze, and interpret policies affecting Medicare
  • Monitor both state and federal policy changes, including regulations, legislation, and sub-regulatory guidance and evaluate impact to the organization
  • Draft and support the development of policy briefs, position papers, and presentations
  • Gather reliable data from various external and internal resources to inform policy development
  • Develop clear, concise presentations that present the research findings including synopses of problematic issues, proposed changes to policies, supporting qualitative/quantitative data, and suggested recommendations
  • Assist in the drafting and editing of policy reports and presentations
  • Help organize and coordinate policy-related meetings and discussions
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policy changes and trends affecting the organization's focus areas
  • Interpret newly proposed policy changes and help identify where internal policies, procedures, and/or strategies need to be revised to maintain compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and sub-regulatory guidance documents


What you need to succeed:


  • Matriculating status from Providence College
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, for delivery to a variety of audiences
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Results oriented, flexible, self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Learning mindset, focus on continuous process improvement
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university, pursing a degree in Health Administration, Healthcare Policy, or Political Science
  • Understanding of policy analysis techniques and methodologies
  • Demonstrated academic excellence and strong interest in the health insurance industry

Location:

BCBSRI is headquartered in downtown Providence, conveniently located near the train station and bus terminal. We actively support associate well-being and work/life balance and offer the following schedules, based on role:



  • In-office: onsite 5 days per week
  • Hybrid: onsite 2-4 days per week
  • Remote: onsite 0-1 days per week. Permitted to reside in the following states, pending approval from the Human Resources Department: Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia
