2025 Summer Nurse Extern Program Two 10-week options: May 12-July 19 and June 9-August 16 Are you a highly qualified student nurse interested in pursuing a professional career with Henry Ford Ascension Legacy hospitals to develop the clinical knowledge, skills and self-confidence needed to be a Registered Nurse? Then the 2025 Summer Nurse Extern Program is for you! Applications will be accepted: Friday 1/24 - Monday 2/10 until 4pm Resume and Transcripts must be submitted at time of application to be considered for the 2025 Summer Nurse Extern Program About the program Two 10-week program dates. Choose from 2 program options, which are: (1) May 12-July 19 or (2) June 9-August 16 32 hours per week, in a combination of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts based on RN preceptor's schedule Paid clinical experience (320 total program hours) In-person clinical orientation the first week of the program, mentoring from nurses, leaders, and networking Variety of clinical areas based on availability Work 1:1 with an RN preceptor in assigned clinical area Opportunities for continued employment if program expectations are met To qualify for a Summer Nurse Extern position you must: Be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred) Complete two clinical rotations, one of which must be Med/Surg (in an acute care setting) by start date Provide a copy of school transcripts Be available for one of the following summer nurse extern program sessions: May 12 - July 19, 2025 Must be available for orientation everyday May 12 - 16 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Must be able to work 32 hours/week May 18 - July 19 June 9 - August 16, 2025 Must be available for orientation everyday June 9 - 13 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Must be able to work 32 hours/week June 15 - August 16 Positions available at six Henry Ford Ascension Legacy Southeast Michigan hospitals Henry Ford St. John Hospital, Detroit Henry Ford Warren Hospital, Warren Henry Ford Madison Heights Hospital, Madison Heights Henry Ford Providence Southfield Hospital, Southfield Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital, Novi Nurse Extern Description Under the supervision of a nurse, provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. Complete assigned nursing orders as directed by preceptor, including assisting patient with activities of daily living and taking vital signs. Observe patient status and responses. Document and report observations to preceptor or other appropriate staff. Assist preceptor with development of care plan by reporting test results and patient observations. Perform other tasks as assigned, including environmental services and preparing/transporting patients for diagnostic services. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma/GED required. Currently enrolled in an accredited registered nurse education program. Successful completion of Fundamentals and Medical/Surgical 1 courses. Preferred ADN or BSN, 3.0 GPA or better. CERTIFICATION/LICENSES REQUIRED: BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
